5.3L truck engine, got some questions
I've noticed alot of these motors on ebay for cheap with low miles which has gotten my attention. My question is this, if I bought one and installed a LS6 intake with a custom grind cam would it make good power for a 6-speed third gen camaro? My target goal as far as power is to run with or outrun my 2001 Z-28 which is mostly stock. This would be acceptable for a third gen but with dependability and decent fuel mileage. Also with the cast iron block it would be a good base to go forced induction correct? Has anyone installed a 5.3L in a car here? If so how does it run as far as performance? I've driven the actual truck with a 5.3L and they seem to **** and get pretty good for a heavy *** truck. This is a budget minded swap.

My car has a stock bottom end 5.3L in it with 6.0L heads boosted. Been beating it for 2 years, runs 10.32 @ 130 and weighs 3650 w/ me in it. Engine came from LKQ on ebay for $500. complete, miles?? Who knows...who cares...lol.
Depending on the purpose/use of the vehicle the engine came from the mileage might have a factor on an engine, but just an engine alone stating low miles means nothing....engines dont travel miles.

A few of the Magazines have been doing build ups of the 5.3L engine.. Car Craft did a Cam change and got 430HP in one of there test, so, pushing up to the 500 mark may not be too far off with just some bolt-ons and maybe some forced-induction or some juice !

Well ****, guess these little motors got as much potential as the 5.7L one's do. This is the route I'm taking, based on the price they are hard to beat. Thanks

Theres 21 ci difference between the 5.3 and 5.7 its hardly going to make a difference. Both can be set up to run good. People just think the LS1 is all that because it is named the option code "LS1". Its kind of a no brainer....hmmm 5.7L for $5k or a 6.0L or 5.3L for less than $1k.... The 6.0 has the same cam, better flowing heads...

I just built a 5.3 block. I used an old set of rods/pistons from my wife's 98 ls1 & bored the block to 5.7. It's just sitting for now, I don't know what I'll put it in.
