Yeah you need a f body or vette water pump. not sure about gto. about you pick up a motor or tranny.
Why not go with a 6.0 or 5.7 Im not cridisizing the 5.3 just asking I seen 6.0 and 5.3 are the same price

Well im getting the 5.3 for a VERY good price, and with a cam and headers is more than enough power for me. And the gas mileage doesnt hurt.

Here is my updated parts list, with questions of course....
Intake
Electronic TB, otherwise ill have to swap pedals and run a cable, but will the pcm of the motor (comes with cable tb) recognize the electronic one and work with my existing pedal?
water pump from f-body or vette
alternator
p/s pump
lower rad hose
upper rad hose
will my existing heater hoses work?
p/s cooler - is this really necessary?
k member with ls1 p/s rack
alternator bracket
belt tensioner
idler pully
ls1 auto tranny crossmember

The A/C looks like its in the same spot on the 5.3 as the ls1, can i leave it where it is? Will the compressor from the 5.3 work on the ls1?

Plans are to get the motor by friday and start stripping all the 5.3 stuff off and sell what i can so fund the project, then clean up and paint the block, get an intake and tb on by the end of next week. Meanwhile continuing my search for a k member and rack to get this project going.

Also, I will be looking locally at the junk yards for a k member, what does it take to pull one out of a car? What holds it in there? The 3 bolts at the shock tower and what else?

I think you should just run a tottle cable from the peddle to the tb, I dont understand what you mean are you getting a truck tottlebody or you buying one. Thats a good thing you brought up heater hoses, I swapped a lt1 into my 95 camaro and I already had the motor in and the hoses didnt work, It was a bitch to get them in there when I just had the motor out 5 minutes before. Im talking about the 2 hoses that run side by side and fit into a grove low on strut tower. so get them to lol.

You are keeping the ac, I havent heard to many people keep the ac that does the swap I kept it to.

where are you located

I don't think that the TB will work, personally I would just swap the Petals, and run a LS1 Throttle Body, and get a NON TCS LS1 Throttle Cable.

The AC I beleive will bolt up to the Truck Block, I would run all F-body Accessories and Brackets. You will need an F-body Crank Pulley.

The easiest way to get to the K-Member IMO would be to un-bolt the lower Struts, lower Spindle Ball Joint, Sway Bar End-Links, and then it's just the 6 Bolts on the bottom side of it that hold it to the Uni-Body from there.

I would like to keep the AC if possible, I do drive this thing dang near everyday in the summer.

The radiator I am aware of, and my car already has the dual electric fans.

Can a vette pan be used?

And I thought the crank pulley was the same? Sure look the same with the 3 spoke style and the grooves for 2 belts?

Do the LS1 and 5.3 have the same tooth count on the crank reluctor wheel? That is one thing I would look into. I'm thinking that they probably do, but not sure. If you have the wrong tooth count for your LS1 computer, it won't run. Check that.

Went to see the motor today before I paid for it, its dirty, not as in oil or anything just alot of dust and stuff. Its also missing the A/C compressor, but that wont work on the ls1 anyway right?

Ok, now a tranny question, does the 4l60e have to come from an f body? Will a 2wd truck tranny work? Will the trac bar hook up to it?

The motor with harness, computer, and all accessories minus AC is costing me 300. Its got a just under 70k on it, came out of a 2wd silverado that was totaled. I know the guy that owned the truck and he takes care of his stuff, ran like a top when it was pulled, even drove it into the shop to be pulled.

All the 4l60e's have the track bar mount?

Also what about output shaft and such, any 4l60e will have what I need. What specific model and year can the tranny come from.

yeah that sounds like a real good deal on that. Whats wrong with the tranny that was with the motor? If I looked at the tranny I could tell but I cant remember. I know the early year lq4s where different so Im guessing the 5.3 would be the same.

Here's some Transmission Info for you..

A 2wd Gen III V8 Truck(Vortec) 4L60E will work without a problem, but you have to un-bolt and replace the Tailshaft Housing with one from an F-body, and it has to be one from an LS1 F-body so the Torque Arm can mount up to it. If you don't want to do that, you can get the Torque Arm Relocation Cross-Member from UMI Performance, but replacing the Tailshaft Housing is definatley cheaper.

I know this cause I have a Tunnel-Brace Mounted Torque Arm, and a guy I know locally had cracked his Tail Shaft Housing, and I gave him the one that I had on my Car so he could fix his, and with the Torque Arm I have, I asked him just to cover the cost of what it would take to get me the Truck one to replace mine.
