Default 5.3 into v6 camaro

Always wanted some more go in the car and I have a birthday and christmas right around the corner. And my parents asked what I wanted, I told them a cam for the car and my dad said he could get me a low miles 5.3 and trany for what id have into a cam swap.

Ive done some searching on here but I cant find the first thread I found that had a lot of good info in it. What are the parts I need? Here is what I know I need.
5.3 and trany (is there a specific year that should look for that would make life easier?)
ls1 k member
ls1 or ls6 intake
ls1 manifolds or headers

The car is a 99.

Aside from the motor and trany what should I expect to spend when all is said and done?

Sorry if this has been posted before I just couldnt find what I wanted using the search.

I'm doing the same swap actually.

Thread I started here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...play-swap.html

Thread I started on PerformanceTrucks
http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...d.php?t=429289

I'm pretty stoked for my first motor build, I know that much.

I put in a 6.0l Block and built it up.. you being a V6 Car is very close to the changes that need to be made with an LT1 Car. You will have to change the Steering Rack out, and build a Harness to run that Engine. It'll be like building a Harness for a LS1, the 5.3l is pretty much identical. You can use a F-Body Harness and PCM without a problem.

Here is my swap thread, some things in it may help you..

Just out of curiosity whats different about the rack? Just the steering ratio? (edit: nevermind i just read your thread) But can I use the same input shaft?

So your saying if I got a 99 ls1 harness and pcm it should all hook up to the 5.3? And inturn for the most part plug right into the car?

Also, since the accessories will probably have to be moved using the ls1 brackets can the truck accessories be used with the ls1 brackets?

Yea, you can hook up a F-body LS1 Harness directly to that 5.3 without a problem.
There wll be some wiring that you will have to do with the Car.
As far as the Steering goes, use the LS1 Linkage as well.

You can use the Accessories without a problem, but you will have to drill and tap the Drivers side of the Block for one of the Alternator Bolts.

Im soo glad to hear I can use the ls1 harness and computer, should make things much simpler. I cant imagine there would be much modification if I got a 99 harness to match the car, right? Swapping the cluster would probably be the one of the big key things (im glad its so easy on our cars).

My question is, the 5.3 is going to come with a harness and computer, would it be easier to modify this or just buy the ls1 stuff?

And im beyond excited to hear I can use the 5.3 accessories, this will be a huge $$ saver. Which ones have to be moved? All of them? If thats the case what brackets will I need to get?

Parts list so far
5.3 and tranny
k member
steering rack and shaft
tranny mount from ls1 car
radiator and hoses
accessory brackets (alt for sure)
ls1 harness and computer
ls1 manifolds
ls1 or ls6 intake

Anything else anyone can think of?

I thought you meant using the Car Accessories..

You will need to use all F-body Accessories for this swap, the Truck Water Pump will not clear the Car Intake.
I would put Headers on it too while you are there, the hell with manifolds..lol

You can modify the 5.3 Harness if you know what you are looking at..how familiar are you with the wiring for these cars?

What dash do you have, the stock 120mph one?

Crap, so now I need an alternator, ps pump, ac compressor(unless my v6 one will work), and a water pump, there's a good grand......

I'm pretty familiar with the wiring, done a fair amount of work on the car in the last 4 years.

Yes just the factory 120mph v6 speedo....

I think the Alt. may work, I'm not sure about that.

I do know it's no where near a grand..I had to get them all as well for my swap. I didn't get the AC, but I do beleive that it was a little over $300 for everything.

You will need the F-Body Power Steering System.

I beleive the Truck Intake might work, not sure though.

MY BUDDY OWNS A SALVAGE YARD AND HE CAN HOOK PEOPLE UP ON 5.3 AND 60 LTRS .. BUT I DID A 5.3 IN AN S10 AND IT LOOKS LIKE THIS

Regarding the water pump, the truck one wont clear the TB with the car intake on correct? So I have to have one from an f body, but what about a gto or vette are they the same or does it HAVE to be from an f bod?
