O yeah it would be torque monster. I saw today in the Desiel Power mag. some one did a duramax swap in a Mustang body low 10's on motor and 9.90's with a the help of NOS. So I may go that route still looking at the 8.1 to. What ever one I can get.

I've offered to donate my 94 Camaro chasis (just quaters, hatch, no interior, no engine, has rear end and front suspension) to anyone who wants to swap it. I bought a spare 94 camaro as parts for my other 94 and i have basically a rolling chasis, no title that anyone can just have if they are going to swap a Duramax into it haha.

I noticed it hasn't been mentioned yet, but virtually nothing from your standard big block will work on the 8.1. There is no distributor, the cooling system is totally different not to mention the heads and block are unique to it. As mentioned before, there is limited aftermarket support for this, if you have the coin. If you use it as-is, go for it. Just get the harness, ecm, etc to make it run.

It's a great torque motor, but if you don't have the cash to pull it off right, pass on it and go with a standard big block.

Heck of a first post, eh?

Here is someone that pulled it off in a older truck.

Well if you were not on the upper part of the US I would take the camaro for sure. But you are in Delaware and I am in the lower part of Florida.

Unique is what I am going for, so money will just have to be found. Duramax is good as well as a 8.1. The after market is bigger for the duramax. Which the two I have not seen in either.

The crankshaft shares same Main and Connecting rod journals as Mark IV, V BBC.

4.5" stroke should fit in the 8.1 10.2" tall deck block. This would get you 510 inches standard bore, which happens to be 4.250, same as Mark IV, V 454. Punch it out .060 you're at 525 inches.

Cam journals are all the same as BBC. With Programming to change firing order, you could put any BBC camshaft in the 8.1L. I put a ZZ502 cam in my 8100. I was using Megasquirt so firing order was not an issue. Torque was unreal. Stock valve springs must be upgraded.

ARP makes a stud with a M10x1.5 bottom thread and 7/16 top thread to convert valve train to adjustable. I used standard BBC roller rockers on my 8.1. Studs were like $50.00

Well I still both a plan. I found a donor 8.1 and also a donar duramax. The only thing the donars want there names on my car. Not a big fan of that stuff. Sticker for a free motor is a good deal to me. Just I hate stickers.
For me I would not try to soup it all up and then shove it in the Camaro. I would just like to see it done. Then after all the bugs are worked out with the stock plain jane motor, I would do the upgraded heads and turbos or what not.

not sure why you cherry picked my weight comment but its simple really... Its different. any poser can mod or pay to mod an LS1 and run around like he is a car guy, but some people choose to build something for the sake of being unique.

Thats partially the reason I'm putting a turbo LSx in my Blazer, and when its finished I guarantee it'll be unique.
