8.1 in a 4th Gen Camaro
Has anyone done this succesfully? I would love to have it done. I ahve been messing with a late model 8100 vortec motor. It is badass. I would be cool to look in my engine compartment and wah la a 8100 big block. It would fill the engine bay so nicely. What do you guys think?

ironic that GM discontinues the 8.1 in light duty trucks and THEN people start getting interested in it. Raylar makes parts for it, and YES it can make power, the knowledge base is no where near what the LSx has tho.

Its a Big Block Chevy, Tall Deck at that, with Gen III electronics and a lot better cylinder head design.
450-490 ft lbs stock. I had one in my 67, broke a piston. Only weak link in the motor really. i would bet clearance under the windshield might pose a problem in a 4th gen.

I heard there is a big aftermarket for them cause they are used a lot in off shore race boats. I would really care to much that it did not make all this power a lS1 makes but all I would really care about is saying I have a 8.1 big block in my car and you don't.490 ft lbs of torque from the factory will most likely be enough for what I am trying to accoplish. LOL It is a tall deck tho, it may have some clearance issuse under the cowling, but I dunno yet. I wonder if I could get some sponsors to help in aidding this project???
I thought it would really look like a Navigator motor in a Mustang, just on the Chevy side of things

I would have to make a custom intake to clear the SS hood and cowling. The heads have a lot of potenial, porting wise. The bottom end will need some help I hear they have weak pistons. New oil pan, maybe a dry sump if someone make one? Yea 496 ci inch big block bored and stoked would be insane to put in a Camaro. I would think it would twist the car in half. Even with subframe connectors.

i considered doing this about a year and a half ago when i blew my ls1. i could have gotten a 8.1 for the same as my 6.0 locally and wanted to but since it was my driver i didint take the time for the swap since i knew i could just thro a six liter at it and make it work. i really wanted to tho. wish i would have had the time to do it. im sure you could make a tq moster street car/truck out of one.

Anchors away!
yes it could probably be done but why? better start of with a chassis car-a boat anchor I tell ya. besides killing the handling- overstessing the chassis from all the weight and torque, what a PITA to have to do that from installing it from unerneath? good luck my friend and have plenty of these ready when it wears you out! like alot of ideas - it could be done but why?

Haha with my 2001 Duramax with intake/exhaust/tuner, utility body, 4 door, long bed 4x4 truck is (i would guess) in the 14s. I get 15mpg hauling a 12,000lb trailer and 17 empty (most get 20 though) and this thing weighed in at 8900lb. Could you imagine how well it would do at half that weight?
Only problem is a new crate from GM is $10,400 and an ebay motor goes for $6,000
