Default 5.3 in a 71 C10

I'm going to be starting a swap in to a 71 C10 Long box.

Most of the swaps with these that I see use an Auto, but I'm planning on using the 5 speed manual that came with my swap motor. Has any one done this?

Thanks.

I have no idea about the 5 speed trans, but i know there are lots of guys that have used the T56 6 speed, so i would assume it is very similar. I'm doing a 6.0 swap in my 70 C-10 right now, good luck.

Are you sure it's a 5.3? I thought you could only get a 5 speed behind a 4.8. Anyway cool project, I'm going to be starting a 71 shortbed project soon....hopefully.

I am planning the same thing only with the 3 speed tranny... As of yet I have no idea how to get the tranny to mate up. Everything else seems straight forward.

Keep us posted.

Also www.67-72chevytrucks.com has lots of swap info.

I am a little lost on that as well. The only LSx truck manuals were the 6 speed with granny 1st as far a I know. At least for the HD trucks... Maybe a stripper 4.8 1500 series could come with a 5 speed???

I was told it was a 5.3, it also has a (/) next to the 5.3 on the block.
Guess I'll find out when the heads come off. The piston tops should be different from what I've read.

I also wanted to make the column shift 3 speed work, but the deal I got for the motor, trans, harness, and ecu I might as well use it all.

you could get a 1500 with 4.8 or 5.3 / 5 speed. The only ones I've seen in person were base 4x4 regular cab with the 4.8.

A Tilt manual column is gonna be about as much as an Ididit column, so keep an eye open. Good luck on the swap
