Default PHOTOS: powdercoated subframe, restored 12-bolt.

I just picked up my restored front subframe for the Camaro. I bought it used and had it dip-tank stripped. Madman Racing modified it to fit the 2001 Camaro steering rack, using the BRP conversion kit. Madman (Brian) did one hell of a job on the modifications and welding, as well as putting it together after the powdercoating job.

Here is a 1969 GM 12-bolt rearend that I picked up used and restored/rebuilt myself. I disassembled it, had it sandblasted, the axles checked, painted it with POR15, and reassembled it with 4.56 gears.

Before:

After:

I liked the old school looking cover with the "SS" on it

Now I just need to swap the suspension into the car to get ready for the engine...

Looks awesome Tony! How does that front suspension setup effect the ride height? Does it lower the car at all? I really want to check your car out one day. Hopefully you'll have it out and about here in Houston one day and I'll run across you somewhere.

Sebring, the Global West coil springs lower the car about 1.5 inches (supposedly). The upper A-arms change the suspension geometry however, for a more stable and aggressive feel.

Not going to make Bristol Bash. Trying for the Thunder Shootout, if not that then maybe the Houston AutoRama on Thanksgiving weekend.

I may attend Bristol Bash in the '02 however, haven't decided.

Looking good Tony.. im going to go with a pinion valved saginaw gear box.. I would consider the R/P system like you have but my frame has already been striped and powder painted.. and if I cut and welded to it then I would need to re-powder it...

I thought you go the QA1 coil over front suspension?? Either way its looking GOOD!!

What we have is a battle between Steve and Tony. Who's going to have the baddest LSx old-school SS? Tony's will be faster and Steve's will rock the bling. No offense to either. Those are each of your strong suits IMO.

Tony- That 12-bolt looks brand new. I'm shocked that you were able to restore it so well. Very nice work. Levi is right...4.56's? That's a mighty tall gear.

The 4.56s are temporary until I get some dyno times later. They are what came with the rearend, and were in perfect condition with low miles. Once I see what power level I'm making at what rpm, I'll slap in a gear suitable for the finishing the quarter mile in the right rpm range with 28" slicks.

Yep, I think Steve will edge me out on the finer details of bling. Pro-Touring cars are meant to be driven hard and beat on, and this one will get its fair share

How do you think those gears are going to do with the blower and 6-speed, you are going to be frying them all over the place...

Looking good...

I'll probably be able to start in 3rd gear with this much torque and torque multiplication

Well first off I dont see it as a competition.. more of a combined effort to put LS1tech on the map of the "pro touring" area. actually i see my car as more "pro-cruising" I'm sure I will get ideas from Tony and he will get a few from me..

And dont think for a second that this car will not be drag raced, road raced and generally drivin hard JUST like my 2000 was. Tony will have higher dollar ride due to his EXCELENT sponsors but i might edge him on details.. I would be honored to park my 69 next to Tonys someday.

Get that sucker ready for Power Tour next year and we'll cruise it together. That would be a blast

I can tell you that no one has a 67 Camaro with an LS1 and T56 in NH. I am going to have to go on the Power Tour to hook up with all you car nuts from the south. Whats wrong with a 4:56?? I have them behind my setup with a full spool on the street!! This thing is crazy. It feels nearly as insane as my 11 second big block. It is very difficult staying off the gaurd rails during the 1-2 , 2-3 , and even 3-4 shifts. But I love this thing. These gears are worn, old and noisy. I will replace them this winter...but I think I will keep the ratio and put in a locker or powertrax in my 9 inch. The magnacharger has been on my shopping list for a long time. Almost put one on my Silverado before I started this project. Needless to say this project stole that money. Now I am out of money. If I do it then I will be without shelter as well.(Wife will kick me out!!) Well maybe I could live in my Camaro.

Looks verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry nice Tony!

Hell, leave the 4.56's in their and just run a solid roller so that you can cruise thru the traps at 7500RPM!!!

Good idea on an NA setup John, but the Magnacharger is designed for specific rpm ranges, not sky-high SR levels

Tony,

Looks good!!

I saw your front subframe at Madman's the other day, he was having a helluva time figuring out how to get the springs compressed. Didn't know it was for your car though. Looks great. I had the black SS on the rack. Dumb car is still not finshed.

Hey, Tony, just out of curiosity, where are you gonna hide your coils and PCM?
