Default Lq4 + th400 = ?

How do I mate my TH400 to my 2002 LQ4? Do I just need spacers/adapters or a full blown custom converter.

i bought the GM spacer and the longer flexplates bolts through a search on here for the part numbers. This mated up perfectly to my existing TH400 converter.

Cheaper yes, but I feel that the spacer which is bolted into the crankshaft is a stronger design if you're willing to spend $25 more plus you get brand new flexplate bolts in the process.

well, i already had arp bolts. so i already had an advantage i guess.

but you can get new grade 10.9 bolts for less than 5.00 at most local hardware stores. i guess its all up to what you want to spend

if you buy a tci flexplate it will come w/ one also (flywheel spacer)

either way will work. its just up to what you want to do

I'm sure it will be cheaper through SDparts.

I don't see a part number on the spacer box. I tried the main ones and nothing turned up. But I did find the bolts. They want 5 bucks a piece for them? That seems like a lot but maybe I am just not used to buying Gen III stuff.

Can I use a flex plate from a Gen I SBC? I have a brand new SFI one in my garage that I would love to use.

no, diffrent bolt pattern. And why in those pics does it show the spacer mounted outside the flex plate. what purpose does that serve?

the distance is the same on the feet of the converter. it is the pilot hub on the converter that is different.

you can physically bolt it up w/o the spacer or adapter and it will engage the pump and drive fine, but you will have the negative effects of the pilot hub on the converter not being 100% aligned w/ the crank. which in turns will cause really bad vibrations and alot of other really bad things
