Fbody radiator
Whats the difference in the 98-02 v6 and fbody auto radiatiors? My v6 car came with an aluminum one with plastic tanks and dual electric fans, but I was told I needed the ls1 rad for my v8 swap, but after getting it home I see that the 2 are nearly identical, the aluminum part looks exactly the same!
Did I end up with the wrong radiator or did I have the ls1 radiator to start with?

Just checked gm parts direct, the v6 and v8 radiators have different part numbers, but it also shows the v6 one with one fan and the v8 one with 2 fans. My v6 one had 2 fans? Maybe I got some type of optional cooling package or something?

Im not sure. I know that the 1994 Camaro radiator is the thickest core, LS1s are thinner as are all other years. I highly doubt using a V6 radiator will make any difference in cooling ability. The V8 radiator is designed to work with only air flow from under the car and with the funs. I am using the V8 radiator, drove 17 miles to work one day without even switchin the fans on in 60 degree weather with the coolant temp never going above 180. The radiators we designed to be used with almost no airflow so using them in a 1st gen swap or most other swaps will be much better of a scenario than they were inteded for.

Bump for a good thread! I would also like to know if they are the same, can you post pictures? There are several 4th gen f-body 6 bangers in the JY's around here and if I can get the radiator/fan setup from them that'd be great! Never seems to be any v8 camaros though. Thanks,
Alex

The early LT1 radiators had a thicker core ( 1 3/8" ) Im not sure you can buy these anymore. They also have a few more openings that the LS1 radiator does not have.

We used a stock '84 heavy-duty Camaro radiator, which has an aluminum core of 21.5w x 18t x 1.38 thick, with plastic end caps. Works great with our LS1/T56. We used (2) fans: the stock A/C pusher that came with the car, and a Spal 16" puller. The puller does not have a shroud, either. The fans are controlled with 3 relays for low & high speeds via the PCM. Works great.
