ls1/t56 into a 1965 malibu ss
Hello everyone. I have finally decided to start focusing on my Malibu. It is a '65 Malibu SS. It originally was a 283 4-speed car with a 12 bolt. I am going to be putting an LS1/T56 out of an '01 Camaro in it. It may take a while to finish this build, as I am not rich. I will update from time to time as get things accomplished. Some of you may remember my other LSX build.
Here is a link to my video.

I've changed a few things since the video. I am going to make another video after I take it to the track this spring. Here are a couple of pics of the Malibu.

Well, the A-Body swap are pertty easy to do now a days. There is now a A-body FAQ/Sticky on top now !
If you do most of the work yourself, you can get it done without breaking the Bank. A swap only get out of budget when you start adding the high dollar performance parts and accessories.
What are your goals and plans on this.. HP, Suspession mods, Fuel system, etc.. ?
Keep us posted.

I am not sure if the B-Body tank wil fit in the early A-Body.. if it does, it will be a tight fit. You might look into the TankINC pump and slump setup.
But what I had to do was just trim my frame rails for about 1/4" for about 12" on each side. I fab'd up my straps using some 1" steel strap from ACE Hardware.
I would not suggest trying to use a stock or un-modified Truck oil pan, it is just way to deep of a rear slump. about 3"+ and if your going to lower the car any, it will hit forsure.
F-Body, LS2 vette, CTS-V or the LH8 hummber pan would be a better choice. Or the Aftermarket pans.
good luck, keep us posted.

Nice looking car, 64-65 are my fav Chevelles. www.tanksinc.com makes a replacement tank for your car and they also make a great EFI fuel pump kit. Some of their tanks are set up to have that drop right in. You might give them a call to see if that works with the Chevelle tank. Prices are reasonable.

Got the Malibu in the shop.
I have decided to start with the interior to see what kind of rust damage I am dealing with. Everything looked great except for the pass side floor pan. It is not too terribly bad but it looks like someone shot it with a 12 gauge. I've got a new pass side floor pan coming and a pair of fender patches.
I am going to work on it some more tomorrow.

Looking good man, reminds me of earlier this week when I had a whole bunch of plastic hanging for the engine bay paint I had done...
That sucker should move right out when you get it running too!!

i removed the front end today, then started blasting. i will blast the rest of the front end later. the previous owner had the frame painted, so i decided not to seperate the frame from the body. i will just clean it up some.
im going to start preparing for the new floorpan tomorrow. then i will start trying to fit the ls1/t56.

floorpans and fender patches are here. i spent the evening finishing the welding that the previous owner never finished. the new rear quarters that have been installed were never welded all the way out under the rockers. so, i finished welding them out and dressed them. im going to tackle the floor pan this weekend. that will get me to where i can start fitting the motor/trans.
