Default ls1 nova(do or dont....???)

Im new to the site..Got a 70 nova all original.But also got my hands on a ls1 automatic from a 04 gto for 4000.00$..If I want it...Been reading up on it a lot..But I would like to hear from someone who has done it...I know I have to change the oil pan to a rear sump..and get motor mounts..I would get a new wireing harness from s&p..I guess what im saying is what are the odds of it at the least ..turning over...??without a headace...

I would say very good especially if it is a complete dropout motor/trans/ECU combo.

I am in the process of swapping a carbed LQ4 into my 63' nova

Do it,I put a LS1 6spd from an 04 gto into my 72 nova.Modded the gto harness my self not hard at all,changed the pan using the LH8 pan hangs a little low (do a search) Trans fit without cutting up the tunnel.Overall it was a very easy swap.I was on the fence about doing the swap. I'll never do another Gen 1 motor again!!

what do you mean by 'all original'? a 307/slushbox th350/open 2.73/8.2" 10-bolt is different than an L78 ss396. my 71 was the former, so i had no problem hacking and modifying it as i liked. but if you've got something that may actually be valuable, i'd keep the original parts.

that being said, do it if it's a run-of-the-mill car. i promise you you won't regret it.

+1 with Hook.. If you have a all original SS or something that is still an all original keeper.. I would look for something else to hack up.. Being a Car guy/Hot Rodder also means keeping the history alive with not hacking up a Collectable car. You have to be responsible to the automotive hobby world.

As with all swap there is going to be a headache or 2 regardless of how much reading and planning you do before ever turning a bolt. Onto the issue of saving a possible "Classic", you can always take your time while doing the swap without chopping the "Classic" to pieces.

Like they said, if it's not a big block or true SS or COPO, swap it and don't look back. I swapped a 5.3/4L60E into my Nova 2 yrs ago and there's alot more pluses than minuses. When I first fired it up I had 4 or 5 trouble codes but slowly fixed one at a time. MPG's are 20+ and the wife doesn't complain about the smell of gas anymore from the carb. I would invest in HP tuners or if you know someone with the ability to program that would help.

I would say do it but it's not cheap. There are a lot of parts made for this swap unlike an old car like mine.
You will have to be completely on board with any type of swap. Don't look for someone to talk you into it.
If built right, it will perform very well, get great gas mileage and be a real pleasure to drive. Besides, you can take pride in a project you built yourself.
