I just bought an LS1 for my '63 Vette!
After careful consideration and debate whether to go retro with an iron Chevy SB vs. modern LS1... I just bought a 2002 LS1 complete with all accessories, PCM , wiring harness, fuel rails, fuel pump, T56 trans, shifter, computer, etc. EVERYTHING for $6499.
The best part... it only has 1200 miles on it.

I'll be needing some longtubes that'll bolt up to the 3.5" sidepipes. I'll have to find out if there are any on the market now that'll work or if I'll have to have something custom made. Who could make them... FLP? Kooks?

I've never had custom headers made. How would I convey the exact specs to them? How would they know exactly how to route them so they bolt right up to the sidepipes?

I would think you would have to have the engine installed and then see what room is left to work with. There are quite a few option out there now with all the vehicles that are getting the LS(x) style engines. GM also makes a flange kit pn: 12480130 a good starting point if you are going to have a shop custom fabricate them for you. They only run about $17 too. That is the route I took and then had them jethot coated.

Kooks or Stainless works can make custom stuff. They need a ton of photos of the engine installed, and several measurements. Most custom headers are then tack-welded together so that the tubes can be moved around alot. That gives you some flexibility to get them just right and add your own tack-welds to lock them in position. Then you send them back and they finish weld them.

I will. Here's a few Q's.
I'm impressed by how nice your chassis is looking!
1. Did you replace ALL the factory C4 rubber bushings with poly?
2. Which coilovers are those?
3. What dia. front sway bar are you using? Is it a 1985 1" bar?
4. In your opinion, which of the C4 donor parts would you say are a 'must replace/repair/upgrade' ?
I'm still waiting on my 4" tube frame. I bought new rotors, front calipers, ball joints, tie rod ends, VBP strut rods, VBP toe rods and got some stainless braided brake lines. I was going to reuse the factory rubber upper & lower control arm bushings as well as the ones on the spindle control rods. They're in good shape. I've changed the lube in the Dana 44 and have painted it along with a lot of other parts including the half shafts. I'm recycling a lot of parts in order to save some money. It's amazing what some degreaser and paint can do to wake up old parts. It's also pretty amazing how some of the C4 aluminum parts gleam after a good scrubbing. When I got it the whole suspension was a dull monotone gray-brown. Two weeks of intense disassembly and scrubbing and it's really coming along and starting to look good.
I'd love to see more pics of yours. That thing looks awesome and I need to raise the bar on my detail level. I'm thinking I could be inspired here...
