Unhappy Bracketry for ls1 in el camino

Just got the total from street performance for moving air condiitioning compressor, new power steering pump and remote resivoir, and alternator relocation. Will start breathing again soon I'm sure . Anyone have any alternatives to their set-up. It is going into my 86 el camino. Their system looses the idler and belt tension is manual . Have to use a different compressor than ls1, different alternator. Needless to say lots to change. John, do you offer your bracket for sale? or are their alternatives to this?

I used their(S&P) system. Looks good. There is one thing that is incorrect. They also told me I would have to use a different alternator. Once I got everything bolted up I was able to use the stock LS1 unit without issue.

I'm assuming your using the F body accessory set up. What if you went with the Vette routing? I'm sure that would be a lot cheaper than the other route. I haven't decided on my a/c yet. I'll either be going with S & P's a/c bracket or make my own. Their proud of their stuff, huh? Also I do believe John was selling the bracket he designed but that was a while ago.

The biggest issue I have is that you can't just use air conditioning relocation package, you have to get their power steering (new pump and remote resevoir), and alternator relocation. New sanden air conditioning unit. Think the total bill is about 1200.

Maybe I need to call them as that's not what they told me. (I only inquired about moving a/c to passenger side high and got a quote of 7-800 for a kit.)

Thumbs up S & P Passenger Side High A/C...

I recently bought this set-up & it was around $375.00. I converted the other side of the motor accessories to the Vette stuff, which I bought used(cheap) at a couple of the many local Vette shops here in Ft. Lauderdale. You can modify the F-body P.S. pump to use in the Vette bracket...but I opted to buy everything Vette...It was a simple bolt-up that way. Thanks, Gar

Yes, I sell my A/C bracket for $375 + $15 shipping. It is designed to use the LT1 compressor and tensioner in addition to the LS1 tensioner. I designed it this way so that you could use a short belt if you wanted to bypass the A/C although I found out later it only saved less than 2 RWHP!

John is it possible to use ls1 compressor with your brackets. Never have seen an lt1 compressor so don't know the difference.

Unfortunately not. The LT1 compressor has a different bolt pattern.

Hey John,

Just curious... Why did you decide yo use the LT1 compressor over the original LS1 compressor?? Is the idler built on to the LT1?? Couldn't you have just used the idler from the LT1 in conjunction with the LS1 compressor??

The LT1 compressor's mounting bolt hole locations are exactly flat allowing for the use of a bracket with a flush face to it.
Is the idler built on to the LT1?
No

No

Here's a pic of the installed set-up to give you a better idea along with the LT1 idler installed next to it

Does the LT1 compressor use the same bolt pattern for the mounting of the Compressor as the Sanden 508 style compressors?? It looks very similar.

I'm thought that the LT1 compressor was a Sanden 508.

I don't know, I haven't seen the Sanden 508. The LT1 has 3 bolt locations (at the 12 o'clock, 3 & 6 o'clock positions). The bottom bolt is obscured in the pic above.

On my 79 elcamino I used the stock F-Body setup. The compressor cleared but had to notch and box a small place to allow the hoses to be bolted on. The steering box also has a small place that sticks out on the housing that I ground about 3/16" off at the top to allow a little extra clearance for the alternator. Everthing else on the pulley set-up clears fine.
