Default 5.3 in a 96 t/a

So I was thinking of doing this swap on my t/a seeing as I can get one of these motors for cheap and I've heard good things. I've been reading a bit but I have a few questions.

First off I've read that the truck intake is almost as good as an ls6 intake but I was wondering do you think that it will clear a stock t/a hood? or am I going to have to opt out for an ls6 or ls1 intake.

I also want to run a/c so I was wondering how I would go about doing that. I assume that the way the truck acc's are arrange I couldn't use that. I was also wondering if I could use my lt1 a/c compressor? as it already has the right piping lol...

Can I run ls1 aftermarket headers? or would I have to run truck headers or a custom made setup?

I've also read on the merv's post that I would need an ls1 steering rack and knuckle. Just wanted some conformation on that ^^

I've heard some good things about tr224 cams I was wondering if that would take me close to 400 rwhp with a good tune? also would I need some new valve train components to run the cam? and if so what would I need? I've also heard some stuff on an edelbrock cam that's supposed to get you to 400 with out changing the tune. Any truth to that?

Now I also know I need to either get a new harness or get it reworked. My question on this is, would I be better off getting an f-body harness or just using a truck harness to be reworked to work with the lt1 components. Ive also heard I can get a custom built harness from ebay...

so as of now I know I need.

Conversion mounts
Some sort of exhaust work done
custom harness
new bellhousing, clutch, flywheel and hydraulics
pcm and a tune

if there's anything on the list that I need plz feel free to mention it

my goals are around 400rwhp through an m6 ^^

I would get the LS6 Intake and all the F-Body Accessories to run on the Engine.

I don't know about the A/C cause I never installed it with my setup.

You can run LS1 F-Body Headers without a problem.

X2 on the Steering Linkage..the LT1 components will hit the Headers.

I would go with a Custom Cam. As far as Springs go, this kit HERE is what I bought and it's working well.

The F-Body LS1 Harness is easier to work with since everything is in it's place so to speak..the PCM still mounts in the same spot aswell, just get the LS PCM Bracket..the LT1 one is different.

I recomment getting ahold of a LS1 K-member and Mounts, it's easier to work with. Also try to get ahold of a LS1 T56, the LT1 one will not work.

Here is my Swap Thread so you can refrence it if you need to..

thx for the reply merv ^^

I thought the only diff between the t-56's were the bellhousing? at least that's what I've been reading.

didn't you use conversion mounts? I know an ls1 k-member would be way easier to deal with but I'm trying to budget >< how much fabbing was required?

yeah nvm after doing some research it seems that getting an ls1 t56 would be a hell of a lot less of a head ache...

any advice on where I can one for an affordable price?

Lol I see you found the differences in the T56..

I used Conversion Mounts.. the only pain in the *** with that is it moved the whole Drivetrain back 3/4".

Look in the classifieds for a T56.. they usually go for $1200.

lol hell yea I learned the difference, I'll stick to the simplicity...

it moved the engine back 3/4 of an inch?

also what exhaust set up did you use or did you just straight pipe it lol...?

Yea it moved everything back 3/4".

I used LS1 Pace Setter Race LT's, custom 4" Y-pipe I made and a cut-out.

How does the motor being moved back affect you? like is it more difficult to get to things? lol also doesn't mounting the engine farther back give you better balance?

You think I can find some way to make the cats work with my setup?

The Engine being back isn't too bad to work with, I had to make the Tranny Crossmember adapt to it, and with my Moser 9" the Drive Shaft just barely works..any more back and it would have been too tight.

I don't see why you couldn't put Cats on it..you can put cats on everything.
