Default 65' Chevy II 5.3 th400 swap

My brother bought this car a few months ago and i convinced him to do a ls swap. Car started as a inline 6 and powerglide, it couldnt get out of its own way. the build consists of:
5.3
224/224 cam
918 springs
arp rod bolts
th400 w/ 3500 stall

I will be using a gto oilpan with all stock suspension and steering

you can see the syclone in the back waiting for its new motor

took about 1.5 hours to get to this

next thing is to make motor mounts, figure out what we are going to do for headers and start wiring

Kewl, great progress so far...... You are probably going to have to use shorties, or build a set of tubes. No one is making a set for an LS in a stock clip right now that I am aware of......

Post a lot of pictures......

can you take lots of pictures and possible document your built. I have a 63ss and would love to do an LS1 swap without having to change the front clip.

About to begin work on a 63SS nova with a stock front clip also. Going front mount turbo though, using manifolds flipped so exhaust will be different than u. Got Gto pan also. Keep us posted!

today we are going to make the tranny crossmember, pull the motor/tranny, and box and weld the motor mounts. The motor mounts are solid with a poly tranny mount.

SO it does fit. What are you going to do as far as exhaust manifolts? did you have to cut the tunnel for the tranny(4l65 assuming)?

probably going to make LT's for it. Used a th400 and the tranny is against the stock tunnel. i will not be cutting the tunnel. Ill get a pic of how far it hangs down when the motor/tranny go back in

from what i see the c6 manifolds or any other manifold at that would hit the steering box. they dont flow as well as LT's anyway.

made the tranny crossmember and new engine crossmember today. pulled everything out to put the cam and tc in.

engine on the left, tranny on the right

did the motor mounts you fabbed up move the motor fwd?
what are your plans for the fuel system?
what are your plans for the electrical side (powering it all up)?

The mounts have the tranny about 1/2" back from stock
We sumped the stock tank, using an inline walbro with stock truck rails for now
I have a cut up truck harness I will be using to make my own harness again.

"update"

haven't made the headers yet but tried some c6 manifolds for the people wondering of they would fit. In no way, shape, or form would they fit without hacking up the strut towers like crazy.

other than that all the car needs is a radiator and wiring harness. been busy with another project but will get back on this in a few days. more pics to come.
