73 Nova Air ride 5.3l turbo swap thread.... Now running
well this is what i got. i am in the beginning stages of my 5.7/ls1 swap. the trans i will be using will be a 4l80e. the car has a built th350 in it now that was bolted to the 350 AFR heads and a b@m blower that i hurt last year at the track the car made two passes one one street tires the car went 12.80 with a 2.90 60ft spinning the tires hard in first and second on 26"/8" slicks the car 1.70 60ft and at the 1000ft the car went poof and smoke and oil every were the car went 12.40 coasting threw the traps and that was the end of the 350 blower motor... the th350 will go for the 4l80e.
i have not decided yet if i am using a single turbo or twin turbo setup. i go back and forth about what is going to happen i guess it depends what i can get my hands on first.
so lets see. the past few weeks i have been working on the motor cleaning it up and taking all the stuff to do some cleaning
tonite i got a few hours to start to rip the car apppart the blower and the heads have been sold so its just bare motor now will make it easy to extract!
so this is now it begins i dont have alot done yet. and im on a build as i can afford budget so i may move a little slow. this is also my first ever turbo car so that will be a curve.. but i will have lots of pictures and questions for sure!

well a little more work done today i got the sub frame removed and got the old heap off the sub frame..
i guess there is metal under all that grease this is its first time out of the car in 36 years so its got lots of pain undercoat and crap rocks dirt every thing you can think of
as you can see my garage is not finished.

Well the the rear two were out once like two years ago for the supframe bars. The from ones were virgans seen wd-40 and the ingersol thunder gun and they were out! It amazing too this is a PA car land of salt! The worst part was getting the subframe to slide out of the tie bars that took me a wile since the car is ladder bared in the back the tie ins are welded in.

oh boy good question there a few years old i need to think a sec. i believe there moroso mounts for a nova sbc. i plan to reuse them

I tested the C6 vette, ls truck, ls car, '10 Camaro, CTS-V, C5 vette, and GTO manifolds on this Turbo 73 Nova Im doing and no luck on any of them facing down. I think only one set even came close to fitting the right direction fitting down and out the back.

love it... it would have been fun to test those drums at the top end doing 11s. man, with all the turbo builds, i'm thinking i should drop the CR on my build to accomodate a couple. and to think, i can get garretts for cost...

well that's nice to know i didn't want to take on a set of custom headers yet but i guess it will be in order. all tho i would like to retain the a/c and putting the manifolds on the right way may be the option to look into then make a sharp turn to get the exhaust forward may be an option

i don't no how to do two quotes in one reply so ill do it this way.
hehe the drums don't scare me i ran close to 11.00's last year with them and it was fine i would think low 10.00's may be a little tricky. they are power drum so that helps a lot. i don't drive the car on the street like an idiot so i don't mind them. 4wheel discs are in the future

I'm using the same frame mounts in my '73 Camaro. It was a former drag race car when I bought it and those were the mounts it came with. On the motor side I'm using Edelbrock adapter plates with Prothane motor mounts. I did have to trim the upper rounded part of the frame mounts off so the prothanes would sit lower and the bolt holes would line up...
