Ill be there(since I live here...) Ill be cruising a few different rides but my 55 GMC is registered so it sees the more use.
If you have never done this event, there is something to do every day.The cruises and the swap meet are my favorite's,The Poker run is a must do and even the final Parade on sunday is alot of fun.
The only downside to this event is if you plan to register a car and be in the event you have to get on a waiting list as spots are usually sold out 2 years in advance.....but once in they offer the spots to you first before going to the waiting list.
Heres a pic(sorry not LSX powered......

Thanx for the response guys..!!! I am a registered participant (after being on the waiting list for 3 yrs) and a 100 mile poker run will be a walk in the park, after I drive a couple thousand miles to get there....lol. Michigan to Reno via Rt 66 (and a few National parks along the way) should be quite an adventure..!! Sounds like Tuesday is the best time to be there, I will proly go to Redding, Cali and visit my in-laws that weekend prior to the start day.
Would be nice to meet some of you folks out there...we need a plan..! Since this is my first trip, I am game for anything! Let me know your thoughts...
Thanx DK

Hi all.... I'm getting ready to leave for HAN, with or without my 57. Normally I would take I-80 but I have traveled that road so many times that I am sick of it and need a change. I'm thinking of taking I-70 out of Denver and then Hwy 50 across Utah & Nevada. Are any of you familar with Hwy 50? Is the highway decent and are there gas stations and motels along the way or am I going to be all by myself out there?![Icon Eek](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/icon_eek.gif)

I70 is fine, of course. Hwy 50 is pretty deserted, that's why it's signed as 'The Loneliest Road in America.' It's all 2 lane, and there are some twisty mountain bits to it. One section we drove over last year was about 3-4 miles of gravel, as it was somehow under construction. No, it wasn't being chipsealed--it was gravel, as in no pavement. I think it was the longest 3 miles of my life waiting for the pavement to restart. Hearing all those little stones hit our freshly restored Camaro was no fun, but it was much worse when a vehicle would zoom by doing 70 on the other side of the road.
The last place along the way I'd think about staying is in Ely, NV, which is pretty close to the Utah border. It's a decent sized town, and I know there is a hotel there. There could also be a place to stay in Austin, NV, which is just about at the center of the state, but I don't know for sure. As for gas, it's shouldn't be a problem. We filled up at the NV-UT state line Casino/gas station, and again in Austin. Once you get to Fallon, NV it's smooth sailing from there on a well traveled, likely now fully 4 lane road. Fallon is a very large town, so plenty of gas stations there. Also, there is a decent sized town in the center of UT, along 50, I can't recall its name offhand, but there's got to be a place to stay there.
I don't know if I'd go that way again, but it was an experience doing it. I suppose the gravel section just made up for all the rock chips we would have gotten from the trucks on the interstate. Of course, doing 1000 miles straight in a 40 year old car that has no cruise control was no picnic either. It took us about 16 hours including lunch and gas stops to go from Denver to Reno, and that included a lot of doing 90 mph along 50 in the flat parts.
I'd say it's got to be a lot more colorful that taking the interstate. It's very desolate, but beautiful country that not too many people get to see. Except for the gravel section, the road was in good condition. I'd avoid driving it at night, though.

Well guys, this trip down the mother road is really a great time. We spent nearly an entire day just chatting with some very interesting folks along the way. Makes it difficult to get very far, but the rewards are really worth it. Lots of unique things to see as well........we are having a great time.!!
My car is performing great........getting just about 20 mpg, cant complain about that. The a/c is doing ok, not as well as I had hoped. It was 99 degrees today when we pulled into Tucumcari NM and more heat to come in the next few days. Will be a real test.!! And did I say how cool it is to have cruise control...?
Will post some pics periodically! Looking forward to seeing you conversion guys out there..!! Later DK
