went thru 7 autozone alternators on my lsx 240...every time i hit the rev liiter hard it would die. i finally ran my own exciter wire from the ECU outside of the harness...fixed my problem...i dont remember the pinout but the ecu has a signal wire for the alternator.....and my problem was soved. hope this helps
Thanks for the response. If this is the case the next one I get (if those one goes out) will be an oem unit.
On the grounding comment: The donor car was a 2002 camaro ss. And the ground cable was attached to the passenger side of the block. My understanding of the alternator ground is that it grounds through the bracket holding it to the block.

I did place the resistor on the wire and it seemed fine until I hit 3000 rpm then voltage went down to barely 10V and never recovered to 13.5 again...
It has been 3 alternators and I have no idea what to do to get my car fixed...
Please help someone.
