Thanks!

It just kills me to have had it running and then the pump died. Arrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!

I'm planning on replacing the dead OEM pump with a RaceTronix pump at some point.

Awesome project, I am in the early stages of doing a 5.3/4L60e/NP241c swap into my '89 XJ.

Unless you are running both CATS and/or have emissions testing to mess with, you don't need all 4 O2 sensors.

The two rear O2 sensors are just for the PCM to make sure the CAT(S) are working correctly. They have nothing to do with actual fuel management and are easily deleted from the PCM while retaining the front two O2 sensors which are required for proper fuel management and closed loop operation.

I had the rear O2's removed from the PCM but left the wiring in place just in case my county goes back to Emissions Testing in the future.

But not vey original.

Well folks I'm back on this project this weekend. Scored an OEM AC Delco fuel pump for less than half of the dealer price. Still need gauges but at least I'll be able to fire it up again and continue tweeking the installation.

Turns out the new pump isn't the same as the old pump, it's too short.

One step forward, two steps back.....sigh.

After screwing around with a wide variety of GM shifters, and being too damn cheap to buy a mega-dollar aftermarket shifter, I figured that there had to be a way to use the stock shifter to control the 4L60E.

I used a tape measure to determine the amount of movement (throw) in the cable at the shifter end by manually shifting the tranny linkage. This gave a starting point for determining the P-R positions. Once this was done I cut off the tab from the shifter that holds the pin for the stock shifter cable with a Dremel. I then tack welded it onto the shifter to allow for the proper amount of cable extension when shifting from P to R.

Next I addressed the stops cut into the shifter, obviously they would not match the new tranny/cable. after securing the shifter and connecting the cable I cycled the shifter through all the gears and marked where the locking pawl stopped. I'll clean this up and create new stops for each position with my Dremel and small welds as needed.

Different gear position.

I knew that the 1st gear position would require increased rear travel so I removed the rear stop by cutting away a little metal at a time so the shifter would have the correct amount of travel.

As you can see the bend in the shifter will have to be straightened out a pinch so that it doesn't contact the console. I can't straighten it too much or it will hit the HVAC controls. For future reference, an earlier model shifter might be a better choice since it is not bent as severely.

Although the gear position indicator doesn't line up with the new positions (I'll work on that later), I'm actually pretty impressed with the results. Shifting is as smooth as silk.

Hate to be late on the info, but you could have modified the length on the transmission side and saved yourself a lot of grief. This would have allowed using the factory stops and the indicator would align properly.

Interesting conversion. I have a jeep driving friend I'm trying to convince.

What are all the switches for? Did I miss that in an earlier post?

Nope, can't be done.

The OEM tranny (AW4) did not have seperate shift points for 1 and 2. It had a single position (2/1) that was electronically shifted by the Transmission Control Unit. Therefore the shifter only had positions for 3 forward gears and not the 4 that are needed for a 4l60e.

That sucks. Mine was like that too but I don't need first gear so I was able to do what I said. In the 4x4 / rock crawler world you will need first at some point.

I have been considering a Taurus fan for mine, but Im not so keen on the amp draw at startup. This looks like a viable alternative.
