Transmission options
Basically I'm looking for opinions on which tranny to use in my Cherokee behind my 5.3L, 4L60E or a late model 700R4?
What say the masses? Be honest and tell me your version of the pro's and cons of either or both.
The 4l60 and 700r are the same
size, gear ratio, and output spline. The 4l60 is what GM changed the name of the 7004 to when they renamed their transmissions. 4=fwd gears L=longitude mounting 60= veichal design weight 6000# E=electronic! The early ones had one piece bellhousing just like the 7004 then in mid 97 they went to the removable bellhousings.
My comment about the size was related to the 60 vs 80. Let's try this. From

4l80E on top, 4l60E on the bottom.
I'm limited on space and the 80 propbaly won't work under my rig. Looks like a fine tranny but it would require a redesign of my long arm suspension/crossmember to make it fit.

Anyone able to confirm that?
Where are you worried about the power? If it's highway, the 4L has a locking torque converter. If it is in first gear while rock climbing/off-roading, I'd expect the newer tranny (4L) to be better but I'm not sure.
The other solution is a bolt-on supercharger and then you don't especially care how much the tranny robs from the drive train!!
