Stock ls1 cam - Decent sized knick is rear intake and exhaust lobes
Stock lifters - They were so weak and collapsed, you could push them with your pinky
Valves - Three were bent
Valve springs - Only measured at 60lbs, give or take 10-20%
Valve seats were banged up from valve float
Oil pump - stock from 1998
Crank - trashed 4+6 journals
Rods- trashed 4+6
It had mismatched bearings for mains and rods and most were 40 over.
Needless to say, i was pretty upset that it looked so good on the outside and so shitty on the inside. I contacted the previous owner and told him, he was eager to hear back from me the first few times after i had it running in the chassis but when i tore it apart and listed everything that was wrong, he completely ignored my emails from that point on. I wasnt asking for anything from him, just stating that the engine was not a good rebuild.

I need a new daily driver. Perhaps I should consider a 318ti. How long will the stock 4 bangers go mileage wise? Should I be leery of a high mileage one? I've never had a BMW, do you like driving it?
After I'm done with my 6.0 turbo build in my silverado, I'll have my factory 5.3L. Will the extra weight of the iron block be troublesome?
I have some googling to do.
5.3/t56/4.10 is a nasty combo and the car feels great on m3 suspension. The ls, you don't notice the weight like the lm.
I wonder how much a rebuilt 4 cyl would be. I could get into a high mileage one, swap to a low mileage engine, drive it around for a few years and collect parts.
So, avoid automatics. Anything else to look for?

Thoughts?
Thanks for the build up thread btw, I'll be studying if I end up going this route. Step 1 has to be reliable daily driver though. Oh, what's with the overheating problems?
They're a lot more fun than a corolla.

I'm having a hard time finding a 95. There's one in Georgia. That's a long drive to Oregon. LOL. I do have family in Missouri though. Maybe a 5 day road trip is in order. I'm a bit leery of flying to Georgia and then driving an 18 year old car 2800 miles.
What makes the swap harder in the newer versions?
