ID LQ4 from vin or casting numbers

I am going to look at truck that has an LQ4 for my swap tomorrow. is there any way to make sure it is a 6.0? the truck is complete (although totaled).

if anyone has any other advice, as to things to check, that would be appreciated.

The motor should be stamped 6.0 on the back of the block. Most normal 1500 series trucks had the LQ4. I know the Denali had the LQ9. The LQ4s had dished pistons and the LQ9s had flat tops for more compression.

The stock head gaskets have a tab that's stamped 6.0... Might look there. Also, look at the emission info, if you can find it. Should tell you something.
What yr and model of truck is it?

it a 2002 truck, supposedly with a 6.0, that's all i know. i did some searching and found out that the 8th VIN character designates the engine and U=LQ4. I will also see if the heads are 317's. the engine is in the truck so my inspection will be limited.

There will also be a 6.0 behind the power steering assembly if I remember correctly.

First things first you could not get a 6.0l in a none SS 1500 truck. Second thing all none SS truck engines were LQ4's as the LQ9 can only be found in Cadillacs and Denalis.
