5.3 with a muncie 4spd?

Quickest but also decent manual trans for a 5.3 swap?
Hey guys I have a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am T-top car. I plan on making it black, new interior and putting a 5.3 with some minor stuff done to it with a 4-6 speed manual trans (probably 4 or 5). Keeping low budget for various reasons but if it means spending a couple extra hundred bucks means I get a decent trans then that’s fine. I just don’t have 3-4K to dump on a transmission. This car really doesn’t need a lot. This car was originally a olds 403, th400 car so it’s gonna be a whole new car once I’m done. Please send all your thoughts and ideas my way, I’m definitely open to everything.

Keep in mind the 1979 T/A's came with the Borg Warner Super T-10 not the Muncie 4spd like most earlier GM performance cars came with. IIRC the Muncie is wider and may not fit the transmission tunnel like the T-10. I bought a super low mileage 1979 Silver Anniversary T/A in 1980. Loved the car as it was gorgeous but that 403 Olds with the automatic was a dog performance wise lol.

You have to decide what you want and come up with a plan. You posted in this thread about a Muncie transmission to a LS so I'm adding a little info about that specific combo.
You need a manual bellhousing like the GM 621 casting. The only issue is the 621 bellhousing doesn't have the top bolt hole for the LS. Also the LS block doesn't have the top right hole drilled and tapped because of water jacket clearance. Classic Industries solves that problem with their LS engine to old school 4spd bellhousing.

The bellhousing is only missing one bolt, and that's been the same case for all of the TH350/TH400 swap guys for years. 621 bellhousings can be procured in the $120-$150 range. That additional bolt isn't worth an extra ~$120 to me.
