Oil Pan For 1969 firebird. So my new project consists of putting a 2003 lm7 into my 1969 firebird. i just got the engine i read and searched but haven't really found an answer to my question. can i modify the truck pan such as chop off the bottom so that it doesn't go below cross member? can i do the same to an lh8? i have a buddy who welds for a living and was wondering if these modifications are possible.

You can do the chop and weld. but your oil volumn after it may be less than 5 qt.. Also.. welding a used and oil filled pan has its own problem, I had one pan that 3 different welders could not modify due to the oil in the pores and bad casting.
Yeah.. check out the new cast pan that RetroLSx is not marketing.. $399, it is a new cast pan that is based off of the LH8, but shorter in the height, does have 5qt capacity.

Does it use the same subframe as same year camaro?
The lh8 pan fit my nova with no modifications except it hangs too low. Take your lh8 to a good welder and have him chop off 1.5" and reweld and you're good to go. It runs anywhere from 30 to 80 around here

it does have the same frame as a 69 camaro. I was considering buying the lh8 pan kit and chopping off the bottom. that can be had for $155 shipped. the fbody pan will be more used without everything and still require modification. I just want sure if the chopping off the 2 inches was safe/or doable.

Verdad Gallardo yeah it'll be a while though. I am putting it on a rotisserie.I am sand blasting the underside, basically everything except the body. I am going to epoxy it all. so far i have taken off the hood and front clip, i stripped and epoxied the hood. i plan on painting it black. it'll be a 2 winter project. but itll run before then.
