Default LS2 /T56 into my -89 Iroc

Hi there. My name is Robert and I live all the way up in Lapland, Sweden.
I´ve had my -89 Iroc for 12 years now and been working on it from time to time during all those years. Most things on the car have been touched and worked on. But the hood has barely been opened!

Two weeks ago I bought a comlpete 2006 GTO LS2/T56 dropout from clevelandpickapart.com. I havent got the stuff over here in Sweden yet though, but I´m working on the transport issues...

Here on LS1tech and on other forums, I´ve only really seen one other 3:rd gen car with this conversion done, and that is A10beavs -88 Firebird. A car that has truly been an inspiration for me. And when I first saw Spike-Z´s Iroc I knew that there was al least one more guy on the planet with the exactly the same visions as I do regarding how to build an Iroc-Z!

I will surely need some help from you LSX conversion guys out there in the near future. And thats why I´m starting to sort out as many things now, trying to get answers to as many questions as possible now before they will appear in my garage.

My first question is a big one. What parts will I need to get things going?
I know that I will need motor and tranny mounts from Hawks or other similar LSX ones. And I´ve already bought a 4:th gen gastank including pump.

And what should I do with the wiring? Is it "doable" to get the engine to work in my car with the stock GTO harness, or do I HAVE to buy a custom one from speartech or similar companies?

Which ones of my stock gauges are possible to keep? And what parts do I need to make them work?

Please check out my white Iroc at www.nordiccamaros.se

Thanx for any help in this matter/Robert

Nice!!! Keep the updates coming, there's a lot of knowledge on here and over on Thirdgen.org about the swap. Pocket can help you with your wiring questions and there's a few others that have done the swap can help out. Good Luck!!

Ive been watching your build on TGO. Looking good

Curious why you didnt pull the harness bulkhead and steering column before painting the bay. Would have made life easier for the spray guy

I answer for Rob since he's hanging more on TGO.

He (Rob) was the spray guy, and he thought that it was easier to leave it in. Since he saved time on disassembly and assembly. Even though he should have changed the joints for the steering since they are worn.

Well after a long time and many "No body in the whole world knows how this works!" typical rob
The engine is finally in its bay.

Radiator back in place with new V6 4:th gen upper hose and a LS1 4:gen lower hose.
Big K/N filter with 4" aluminum tubing and silicone 90 elbow

Heater core hoses in place down low by the "frame". Will probably be covered up by some white plastic in the future.
The air intake looks nice I think. Gets the cool air in from underneath the car through a hole in the "battery tray"

Very nice. What issues did you have using a GTO as a doner?

You have to replace the shifter, different engine mounts, cant use the original headers. Also he has replaced the pedals with Camaro 4gen pedals. He also use the 4gen fuel pump.

Flimsy plastic nose piece covered with carbon fibre. My first work with this material, and unfortunatelly I didn´t have access to a vacum bag, so the end result is not perfect. But still so much better than the piece was from the factory

A update for you guys. Robert is over at 3gen forum and does his updates there usaly.
Updates are always availible through the site NordicCamaros.se

Almost done now. Just some small adjustemnts of the electrical system that needs to be done properly.

Here it is with my Eibach springs cut 1/2 coil. Too low in front for driving at all. Anyways. this is the first time it´s been in daylight in 1,5 year

Isse, my friend and wiring guru working on the wiring. My dad´s -86 Grand Prix in the background

A bit too low at the front. Looks good, but virtually undrivable.

Stock Iroc coils cut 1/2 coil. Perfekt ride height

Performance test at the "local" dragway 300km away from home.

Relaxing times at the track

12.98 at 181 KM/h (112mph) With super careful start from idle in first gear with street tyres, Nangkang NS2 good grip dough!

Nice conversion! I'd like to add a strut tower brace similar to yours in my LS1 conversion, is that the standard Edelbrock 5226 for a 3rd Gen or did you have to modify it to make it fit?
