2005 = 24X

LQ4 = 24X

You have 24X.

Most of GM's transitions aren't that simple.

2007 is a crossover year. In 07 you have the LQ4 or LQ9 24X in the Silverado Classic, while the 07 Silverado new body style has the LY6 or L76 58X engine.

The LY6 came out in 07, not 08.

After months of chasing my tail and thousands of dollars spent, I have found that my 6.0. from a donor vehicle (2007 2wd chevy silverado classic crew cab 1500hd with 6.0 lq4/317 heads/4L80 trans), has a 58 tooth reluctor wheel. Finally after snatching the wiring harness and f.i. system (modified and flashed by SPEARTECH spring 2009) off after it was all installed but not functioning properly and then converting over to carb/intake, and still having electronic issues, the problem was narrowed down to timing. I spoke with edelbrock and MSD techs and they told me that the information that I believe to be true was incorrect (24x wheel) and they told me how to look and see.

In order to order my edelbrock carb and timing control module from livernois motor sports, I googled a question in May/10 to see how many reluctor teeth where in my 2007 lq4 and this thread was about the first 1 to come up. More specifically I read this info (quoted) and trusted in the expert, who had done my harness in the first place. Only to find out other wise. Wonder if my ecu was flashed with this same crank sensor information thanks speartech????

58x and 24x are immediately very noticeable in appearance. they do not look the same at all. the 58x wheel has thicker teeth and looks more like a sprocket.

had looked at the sensor, and determined what color it is, you wouldn't be having all this "drama" in your quest to "ride"....

More likely that you are mistaken what vehicle your engine came from. No GMT800 vehicles have the newer style PCMs which is what uses the 58x.

No sir, I pulled this engine myself in my buddies garage. It was a rear ended, Pewter 2007 silverado classic 1500hd crew cab 2wd. 9,000 miles on it.

Here's a few facts for you Einstein:

There's no such thing as a 58X LQ4. The LQ4 by definition is a 24X engine.

The are NO 58X Silverado Classics.

The Classic was a phase out model in 2007. They are basically leftover 2006 models that were being replaced by the new body style Silverado during 2007.

ALL of the Silverado Classics are 24X engines.

Here's a typical LS style PCM (Blue/Green) that is used with the late style trucks from 2003 to 2007 (Classic):

Size:  41.8 KB

This PCM isn't "programmed" for 24X or 58X as one of your statements eludes to. It is a PCM for a 24X LS type engine and can NOT be "programmed" for a 58X engine.

Here are the ECM's (an E38 and an E67) that are used with 58X engines (2007 NBS and later):

Name:  E38_E67_ECM.jpg
Views: 24104
Size:  68.5 KB

The E38 is what you would find in a 2007 and later NBS truck. You won't find this ECM in ANY Silverado Classic.

You sent us a truck harness and Blue/Green PCM as shown in the top picture to be reworked and reprogrammed.

If you have a 58X engine, why did you send us a 24X harness and PCM??

Everything in this thread was factual until YOU started replying with your misinformation.

Since we are on this subject I hope some of you guys can help me with some of this.

My brother has a 1999 1 ton 4x4 GMC dually with a tired 6.0L.

He is wanting to upgrade the motor in his truck to a newer (more HP) 6.0L.

If he were to find a good donor 2008+ 6.0L (LY6) would he need to get the entire harness, motor, computer ect to make it work in the older 99 model truck??

Also, which heads came on the LY6?? Were they the L92's?? Or something else?

Buuuuut Speeeeeeartech, its much easier to blame problems on someone else rather than actually pay attention to what you are doing.
Don't you know this?
And this guy clearly knows more about ECMs and harnesses than someone who deals with them daily.

Correct, but a shady seller will stick any sensor laying around in there or a misinformed buyer will remember whatever color is convenient for his story. Its always better to know for sure, and knowing comes from removing the one bolt and peeking in the crank sensor hole

An LQ4 is a Gen 3 engine. All Gen 3 engines, from GM, have 24x wheels. When they went to the Gen 4 engine in the trucks, the RPO changed, as did the engine...the Gen 4 6.0 isn't an LQ4.

Correct me if i'm wrong,but if you connected a multi meter to the crank sensor and slowly turned the engine over by hand,you should be able to count the teeth by reading the multi meter resistance readings.
