putting 5.3 ls motor into 95 3.1L 5speed camaro
so i have a friend that has a 95 camaro 3.1L v6 with a 5 speed manual behind it. what do i need to swap out to put a 5.3L ls truck motor into it? what will bolt up what wont? i was thinking he would be able to get a ls1 f body engine harness and ecu and it would drop right in and fire up but would he need a different trans or would that one work. let me know what you guys know

You will definately need a LS1 style Trans..I would go with a T56 since it's already setup for a Manual, wiring in an electronic Auto will be a pain, aswell as the mounts for the Auto Shifter.
Yea the easiest and simplest way would be to use a LS1 Harness and PCM..the best would be a 2002 PCM, but any of them from 1999-2002 will work. The Harness you need will be from a 1999-2002 aswell. You can get a Manual Harness, or convert an Auto Harness..that's easy to do aswell. Then use a LT1 T56 Crossmember and LS1 K-member, a couple of other things..and it will go right in..
I did the Swap with my 1995 Z28..the V6 and V8 wiring is pretty much identical. If I was home I would be able to give you the pinout diagrams for the LT1 and LS1 Connectors and you would be good to go. If you have any friends at GM ask them to print them off..
Here is my swap thread..there is alot of good info in it..

you need ls1 style steering rack
ls1 steering shaft
ls1 k member [can use conversion motor mounts]
F body acc
f body crank pulley
f body exhaust
f body dipstick
f body oil pan
f body oil pick up tube
ls1 intake
ls1 injectors and rails
ls1 motor mounts
power steering lines
new radiator?? i dont know if the v6 is the same as lt1 if so you can keep it.
Thats just a start im sure someone else will come up with more.

yes i know what a ls6 intake is...you said that he doesnt necessarily need a ls1 intake i didnt know if you meant he could go with a ls style intake ls1 ls6 fast victor jr and so on or if you meant that the truck intake would work for his application
