Default project x

Started out as a Buick Apollo. Its getting a 74 GTO front end with a few custom body touches. Already have the 02 camaro ss brakes all around. Just picked up a 4.8 ls motor for know. Not yet sure which trans I am going to go with, either a 4l60e or a 2004r.

The plan is slowly coming together. Got the oil pan modified, picked up a ls1 intake, got fuel rails and cam on the way.

The plan so far: 4.8l with an 04 gto cam,ls1 intake, aftermarket fuel rails, and a truck throttlebody. 17"Wheels and front and rear seats from an 04-06 gto. Any thoughts?

Will probably run a 4l60e because I can't afford a t56. Will any 98 and later 2wd 4l60e be ok or is there something specific to look for?

Have not been able to decided between aftermarket ecu or factory, opinions?( have experience with F.A.S.T and Bigstuff3)

If I go with a stock computer can I just get a camaro harness and computer to modify for this setup?(has 24x signal)

Can I use one of my GN alternators with the ls1 or will that cause issues?

Will probably have more questions I can't find answers to in the archives as the project progresses

Any 98+ 2wd 4l60e will be fine. I dont quite understand this? (If I go with a stock computer can I just get a camaro harness and computer to modify for this setup?(has 24x signal)
It seems like your referring to 2 different computers. The easiest way would be to find a 99+ harness and computer, as they are easy to repin, whereas the 98' f-body harness and computer are not so forgiving.

And I'm unsure about the alt, but I do believe I have read somewhere about different brackets and alt's being used for this swap.

As long as the alternator will not cause electrical problems I will make my own brackets.
I just wanted to make sure that using the parts I have for the motor setup won't be an issue if buy a harness from a 2000 -2002 camaro. Thanks for the reply.

You're gonna have to change the injector connectors on the ls1 harness to the truck style connectors also.

More progress. Got the fuel lines in, mocked up the radiator, did a front sheet metal test fit, and picked up a t56.

Could someone please tell me if the 4.8l crank will accept a stock LS1 camaro flywheel/clutch setup?( pics of rear crank below)

I guess you changed your mind / budget on the T56?

Yes, the crank flange is the same.

You could use any factory PCM and harness compatible with a 24x crank signal. F.A.S.T is very expensive and unnecessary if you aren't doing crazy mods.

MeanYellowZ always uses different (non LS) alternators without issue.

I actually think the GTO wheel looks right at home. Looks like a good match.
