Default corvette harness?

I know the f-body wiring harness are popular to mod for retro-fits, but is there a reason why someone should steer clear of a 2002 corvette wiring harness?

I can get one for a decent price (without computer) and would like to ATTEMPT to make it a stand alone, but don't know enough about them to know if I should pass on it.

So, is there a reason why a vette harness is not a good canidate? It would be for a 99-02 5.3 with ls1 intake.

PS
are the tranny wiring harness usually seperate? I am looking to go auto.

thanks

On the truck/SuV harnesses the tranny wiring is integral with the engine sensor wiring. I believe it is the same wy on the Vette. My buddy is doing a C5 69 Camaro and If I remember correctly the tranny wiring was included in that harness also. On the vette it is much longer though as the tranny is in the rear.

That's good news. Next question, is it a big deal to convert from manual to auto tranny wiring?

It's about 8 extra wires..have fun..

From my understanding too the Vette Harness has to be cut out, it's all one piece..not like the F-body where you can un-connect it and know what you are looking at.

Bill, it's easier to go from auto to manual. Fewer wires you actually need to get it running on the manual. That's the short version, I could write about 1/2 a page on it, but you get the idea......don't recall anyone actually doing it.....have you checked the junk yards for harnesses in your area?

Thanks guys, I guess I will pass. There are truck harness available at a local junk yard for $100, then $40 for the fuse block, but then I would need to get the correct pigtails for the ls1 injectors, which seem to be $10 a piece

Just wanted to get some feedback before I spent money on something that would not help me reach my goal.

thanks again guys

I used carpart.com, and that is the cheapest I could find

That is why I have been searching this forum, but seems like too many people want the same, if not more plus shipping

I got time I guess......

If you think $100 for a harness is ridiculous, then you haven't tried to buy an uncut f-body harness lately.

That's a lot cheaper than 500-750 for an aftermarket harness.

True...... assuming I can wire it correctly

edit: found a set of 8 ls1 pigtails at summit! for $24. That is more like it

I am eyeballing a 2002 5.3 w/62,000 miles on it for $290, might go pick it up and see if they have any harness too.

thanks again guys

I find them often under $100, but I dont specifically look for uncut harnesses. I rework them to suit my needs anyways, so a handful of wires to repair is nothing new

The comment was directed at the $40 fuse block and $10 per injector pigtail

40 is a little too high for a fuse block. You can find them on ebay all the time for 25. Most of the connector vendors get from 9 to 11 bucks for the injector conectors.
