Question Cold air intake and filter question

I have an LS1 in my 69 chevelle and I'm stumped on what I should do for an intake set up. I saw some universal kits out there, but they just look cheap. Any ideas? maybe some pics on your set up?? Any help would be great. Thanks. And also, is there a upper radiator hose out there that will work with my swap?

I'd be interested in this also. I'm in the process of putting a LS2 in my 71 Chevelle. I was looking at possibly going the the spectre components, but I wouldn't mind finding something that looks a little more OE.

In my '55, I used the snorkel tube from a early LS GTO and picked up a spectra filter at my local O'Reillys store. The snorkel tube has the (2) sensor ports and makes it easy to install. I just changed to a K&N filter because the Spectra was a little fatter and wouldn't clear the A/C compressor when I added the a/c.

Here's a picture before I changed the filter. Good luck!

I should probably add that the Spectra filter says it is not designed for street use so I don't know if it will pass emissions testing. I'm sure the K&N is a much better filter if you are going drive the car in a dusty enviornment. Once you get the snorkel tube, you can go online to K&N and find a filter with the dimensions you want. My new filter is jegs part # 599-RU-3620.

I've been researching a budget-friendly solution to the cold air intake myself. I found one reference to 5 inch stainless pipe bends grafted together with the MAF in-between. Anyone out there have a source for the pipe & connectors or info on the tech issues?

I made a custom Intake out of home depot products for like 30 bucks, used the rubber/silicone hoses from the plumbing section for my elbows and couplings and some of the tighten down metal bands, A straight air intake piece from auto zone with a filter.

jagsthatrun.com sells rubber bends and things that look and fit nice

then I put a k&n on the other end

for a radiator hose, get one for a 70s buick rivierra with a 350 diesel engine, perfect fit...do a search and I have a thread about it based on someone else's guess that it should work

they had the hose in stock at my local autozone

This is what i came up with when i had my 2008 F150. I utilized the stock air filter housing just modified it. The 90 i got from home depot and the clamps as well. All in the plumbing section.

I picked up an air filter box from a 4.3l S-10 (dirt cheap), and some tubing from intakehoses.com. I am planning on opening up the lower front of the box and adding a chute between it and an opening below my headlights to get a ram air effect.
I am wondering if the S-10 size filter will be large enough for an LS-1, any opinons??

Its funny that the home depot was mentioned as a place to find air intake tubing because I read an article in carcraft that said the same thing:
http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles.../photo_29.html

They said someone noticed it, but they thought the person worked at home depot

S&P makes little square filters you just put on your engine and you don't have to build an elbow. This doesn't flow air very well I read cause the flat front plate blocks it. I was wondering, could you just put a cone shaped k&n on your air flow sensor and call it good?? maybe it won't fit, id like to know cause im doing an lq4 into a 69 chevelle too
