Default Noob heree.. Need some advice, and pointers.

Got a 2001 Chevy Camaro with the 3.8L V6 pkg. I'd like to convert it to a V8. All advice, pointers, and opinions needed.

Umm ... be prepared to shell out some serious money. In all honesty, if the car is still stock or near-stock, I'd recommend selling it and buying a car with a V8 over swapping from V6 to V8. It's just so much cheaper than the swap, especially once you factor in the sale price of your current car. Plus, you don't have to deal with the downtime while your car sits in the shop.

But the KBB for this car is beyond ridiculous. Even though it doesnt even have a 100,000 miles yet. Its listed in the high $2k

What do you think it would cost roughly to do the conversion though?

I hate to say it but agree with the other 2 guys. Look at prices on crate motors, add a PCM, fueling, cooling, etc... Not to mention that if you have a shop do the conversion, labor for something like that would run probably $2000+. With the amount that you will spend will not even come close to just going out and buying a LS1 equipt vehicle. I know that isn't what you want to hear but it makes the most logic fella.

I would say it would run upwards of $7000 all together, and you would still need little things here and there too.

^Just for an LS1 if you are looking for brand new. Search all over and buy everything used if you want to go the cheapest route. You have a lot of research to do

Personally, I'd list it at $3000 on eBay, cars.com, or a similar site.

$4k for just the block there. I believe the converter and trans will be different (someone correct me if I'm wrong here, I could quite easily be), but at the minimum, you'll need the motor mounts. Add on an ecu, wiring harness, manifolds, etc., you're probably looking at another thousand and change there, and another couple thousand labor if you bring it to a quality shop.

EDIT> and used motors I tend to stay away from, unless you're getting it rebuilt. Don't want to go about swapping engines only to find out that you have a compression leak or a seal or gasket somewhere that's leaking like a siv.

Are there any alternate power routes I could go to keep the V6?
I've read a good bit on the net and to supercharge it means to make a custom one.

There are some guys on here that have 3.8s cammed and supercharged but they are few and far between on this forum. Hopefully one will come in here.
