Default Carbed 6.0 nova conversion??????

New to the LSx engine family so bear with me please.I am thinking about converting my 67 Nova to a 6.0 (LQ4,LQ9.LS2) with a carb and a 700r4. The Header issue has been solved thanks to Church Boys Racing,so are there any issues I need to be aware of?I would also like to change the cam so it has a little bit of a more old school sound.I am not sure if the EFI cams work well with a carb or not.Who has the most information on LSx carb conversions?I plan on using the Edelbrock manifold with the MSD coil driver box,not sure which manifold would work best.I am looking for good power and street manners.I currently have a 12-1 400 sbc that makes 500+ horse and its streetability is marginal at best.I am much less into racing than when the car was built and more interested in being able to take it on a 500 mile trip with no problems.any input would be appreciated.

Ok no help with that question,I will try again.
Those who have converted from a SBC to LSX based engine with a carbureator,is the LSX motor taller or sit higher in the chassis than a SBC?I an trying to decide which intake I will need to fit under the hood.

not sure about the first question, but how much are you looking to spend on the engine? and streetability meaning? pump gas. solid idle? how solid? and i think a simple h/c package with a mild cam would easily meet that. if you REALLY want streetability, go fuel injection.

I'd get the msd 6010 box separate of the intake, their height measurements are on the edelbrock website FYI. Hit up Pat G off here to custom grind you a cam, it's only $35 more than an off the shelf cam total and will work much better with your carb setup.

Thanks for the input guys.I want a good streetable old school Muscle car,I will stick with a carb for simplicity.Stock 6.0 with a carb freindly cam swap.I have faith in my ability to tune the carb to get it to run good.Tell me more about Pat G,I seached and found nothing.I currently have a very high strung 400 SBC 537 hp at the flywheel .630 solid roller 12 to 1 compression. To much for a street car. When I built it,it was all about how fast it was and now I want to be able to drive it more.

Nova,

I plan on 550 fwhp, 24 mpg, pump gasser and a tough musclecar sound with good street manners. You can have your cake and eat it too!

The engine sits lower in the engine bay than a sbc and with a stock (LS1/LS6, LS2) intake, there will be a lot of hood clearance. A 4-bbl intake/Holley carb with a three inch tall air cleaner will fit with a 1962-67 Nova Cowl hood (the vehicle DID have an aftermarket front end though)...not really sure if a stock-flat hood would clear all of that.

a lot of guys run the Z06 cam, from like a 2002 vette, or the wilder GM cam-there are others out there used with good results, prob the FI can get them to idle a little better-i run the Edelbrock Vic Jr on mine with a carb, MSD box
the dual plane might be better for the street, but a lot of single planes out there-i run a Procharger blowing thru the carb, the carbs on the LS engines like a little more agressive pump shot off idle-i dynoed 617 to the rear wheels in Jan. with the new motor, it idles at 800 rpms, i drive it all over the place,
best thing was adding a 4L80E trans, cant beat OD and lock up converter

I found a 2008 6.0 truck motor locally with 823 heads.Just a bare motor no accessories, how much is it worth and would it be a good candidate for a carb conversion? It is an aluminum block and appears to have variable cam timing, can this be removed? Is it as simple as a cover and sprocket swap??
