Default cooling down an ls1

can some one please tell me how to cool down my ls1, do you have to chang the stat or can I change the fans to come on at a lower temp in HPtuner. Its not running hot but I would like to have it lower to work with my temp gauge better. It runs at 210 i would like at 190 or 180

GM designes and engineers the engines to run hot for emissions reason. you can use HPtuner to lower the fan setting, but should also change the T-Stat to match.. else if you don't change the T-stat, the fans would come on, but the t-stat is still going to try and bring the engine up to it operating range (it might help some, but it would be fighting the T-Stat that is still closed).

If you change the T-Stat and not reset the Fan setting, then the Fan's would not come on until it reachs the factory setting (223* ?). again, would only help some, sometimes.

Bottom line, change the T-Stat and retune the fans..

If you have an 01+ LS1 thefactory t-stat is 186*, so you would just need to reprogram the fans, 98-00 LS1 have 195* stat and would need a new low temp one to get the temps down (plus reprogram the fans)...good luck

If you want the motor to actually run cooler, take the t'stat apart and put shims under the valve. I put an 0.080 shim in mine and it runs ~185°...

Default Tight Quarters LSX Cooling

Two Words; Ron Davis

I have arguably the smallest engine compartment, and live in Arizona 115 degree days in Summer and the Davis cross-flow radiator they built for me keeps my LS2 under 190 all the time and even in Summer, bumper to bumper traffic the fans rarely come on.

Priceless.
