Man, excellent find. I'm in the mode of thinkin that car could be driven home for under 4 grand cash. A car that clean to start with is worth every bit of 4 grand for the headaches and money spent on getting something that old back into that condition.
Street Sleeper Turd Brown to boot.
One of you West coast boys better pick that up quick.

My wife had a '75 hatchback when we met/married. The car was surprisingly light, resulting in more performance from the anemic 304 than you would expect. The only really funky thing about the old AMCs were the rear ends. Swap it out for something better and you're good to go.
If this car is rust free and has half decent paint, then the asking price is more than fair. When was the last time you saw a $4500.00 body and paint job that looked good?

agreed...
I'm doing a Volvo swap - got some of the same "why would you do that" type responses. The difference is I paid $250 for my car. It's a 1997 high trim level car with 120k miles, and I think I've got the old engine sold for $300.
I'm going to end up with a (relatively) modern, comfortable, decent handling car.
Ultimately we're making cars that apeal to us personally, so if you happen to be someone who wants one of these cars...
