Getting ready to drop my motor in my 1976 camaro and got this far

It looks like it's off a few inches from lining up or am I just overreacting? My mounts are all stock 1976 Camaro and the adapter plates are 1" set-back plates 3/8" thick.

Any tips on getting this in place? I'm pretty sure my lower mounts are in the right spot.

Wow thats way off. I know the mounts on the fram can mount in 2 differant spots depending on small/big block apps. But I'm not sure wich ones work for LS. Man I hope I don't run into these problems on my 79 project...

Use SBC mounts/holes for the adapter plates

Try unbolting the crossmember side mounts and shooting the long bolt through so they hang from the engine. Now set the engine back in there and see which holes it best lines up with. You may end up drilling your own

This may not be true. A few years ago when I got my 70 Camaro it had a SBC in it and I swaped in BBC stands in the same holes and dropped my 454 into place. Hopefully when it warms up enough to work on my car I might have enough assorted parts to drop my LY6 into place. ( crossing my fingers )

I actually gave 35 for mine too, his auctions have different prices...but I think they are all the same.

I emailed him earlier to see if he would be interested in making some exhaust flanges to bolt on to camaro LS1 exhaust manifolds. This makes the second set of plates I bought from him and communication isn't his strongest trait.

But he will ship pretty quick...you should see them by the end of the week.

Ok, after messing with this for a few hours I got the motor tightened down.

I ended up using the hoist and a floor jack to tilt the engine at the correct angle using a pry bar and working the rubber section around in the lower mount on the drivers side until the bolt finally slid in.

Last thing I did was englarged the drivers upper mount hole on the rear to allow the bolt to go through (it was at a angle and and wasn't going through the rear hole...it liked an 1/8" from clearing. Once the nut is in place you won't even notice it.

It wasn't an easy job but it's done....I'll take pics in a little bit.

I'd be almost embarressed to snap a pic, it is just a shell right now...I gutted the whole car.

I do have a complete new interior to go back in and it has 17" wheels on it. Maybe in a few months I'll have it back together where I can drive it.

Thumbs up

Cool I'm hoping I'll be in the process of putting an ls1/t56 combo in a few weeks. Just made a deal with a guy on a 90k miles ls1/t56, harness, pedal assembly, master cylinder, brake booster, tan seats (front and back) for pretty damn cheap off a 01 ws6.

Quick questions for the OP.

1. What springs and shocks are you using?
2. Is your block iron or aluminum?

What oilpan you using? Any pics with assorted viewing angles? Why no headers? A money thing? I am complating Edelbrocks' headers but I thought some people complained ( or were concerned) that the Edelbrock headers hung kinda low. So I am thinking of $95.00 BBC headers from Summit and welding on flanges. This way I won't be pissed if the get banged up on the bottom. If it works out good.... I can always Jet-Hot them too.

keep up the good work and progress pics !

I'm using the F-body oil pan, it clears the frame crossmember perfectly with the 1" set-back plates. Here are some pics.

I'm using 1998 Camaro / Firebird LS1 steel exhaust manifolds mostly for cost and a stock look. They HAVE to be 1998 only, in 1999 GM switch to cast and the passenger side will be closer the frame because of the angle.

The 1998 manifolds will shoot down perfectly on the passenger side for easy exhaust hook up. Here are some pics a member was nice enough to send me in comparison.

1998 Manifold on passenger side:

1999 - Up on passenger side:

Comparison between the two: (1998 on bottom, 99 on top)

Thanks for all the pics. The manifolds are good to know backup plan. I fear my funds might be too low for ANY headers this year.
thanks again,
