76 Camaro Alternator hits...CraP
So I put my 2004 GTO LS1 in the Camaro for a test fit and the alternator hits the pitman arm. I don't know if I could just swap alternators to a smaller one (brackets probaly won't work then I'd bet) or if I'll have to use the KWIK brackets. The KWIK bracket for my AC works OK but the AC was a little tight on the wheel well.
Any input on the alternator/PS issues I'm having?

The AC looks like you could put a spacer under the motor mount or a BFH to gain clearance, but that alternator looks unworkable.
Can you raise the motor and maybe bring it a little more forward?

F Body alternator
I used a "F" Body alternator in a similar set-up, it will bolt right up to your stock alternator brackets and belt, and is quite a bit smaller in diameter.

alt.
I believe BRPhotrods states this on their 2nd gen f-body section. I think I read in a MAG that a reg. truck alt is the same. But I am not sure if they meant soley mounting pionts and not size. Worth investigating it more though. (stop buy local parts store and compare truck vs Camaro)

You get this figured out? I'm using f-body brackets in my 76 and my alternator is in that same spot...it's smaller than the truck alternator but hittng my pitman arm as well. I think I'm screwed...
what are you 2nd gen f-body guys using for brackets?

I posted on the nastyz28 site as well, but you don't need to buy anyone's bracket kit if you don't want to.
I put the regular mounts back on my 76 and it clears just fine with my F-body alternator....no rubbing whatsoever. Just switch to a F-body alternator and you should be good as gold.
I got my alternator rebuilt off eBay for $75 shipped...it looks brand new and came with a warranty. Better than the $140 + tax the local stores wanted.
