Im in the middle of an awd project right now. The hard parts that made the most sense to me were
-Gen 3 engine
-4l80 (4l60 is a joke, especially with awd)
-syty tranfercase with a adapter and 31 spline input shaft.
Im using TBSS front diff and oil pan. unless you run a locker in the front they will be plenty strong (internally its the same as the s10 stuff.)
this set up is very compact, considering what this stuff was actually designed to go in.

I don't have any info on doing this on a car but there is an article on ls1truck about someone going AWD on their truck. If you're looking for parts I have oil pan, dipstick, baffle, windage tray and front differential from a 06 Rainier(same as TB/envoy/9-7x). It's off of a LH6.

It was going in a nissan 240sx but that has changed there is thread about the 240 on here somewhere. I have not started a thread about the new build.
I plan on making as much power 160# injectors will make on e85, twin tc72 turbos.

Now THIS is a worthwhile effort!!
Anyone recognize this car?
Contributing parts for the coupe below:
The original QuadraDeuce contributed its GMC Syclone front differential
and transfer case, front suspension, Corvette ZR-1 rear differential, Harwood
fiberglass/carbon fiber body, grille shell insert, and dash. The rest of the
vehicle was heavily modified or built from scratch to create a whole new look

Check out this thread. Probably the TBSS would be the easiest, but still not easy.

Hey Gang,
I don't have an LSx motor, but I am a HUGE fan and want to make a project with an LSx in the future.
Anyway, I am also a huge fan of AWD and I stumbled upon this thread and I thought I would share. I need to get my act together and get a new webpage, but here are some really old pictures of my AWD V8 project:
http://home.comcast.net/~xr4x4ti/V8_AWD_Pictures.htm
It is a turbo 331 SBF with a T56, Syclone TC, S10 front Diff, 8.8 IRS rear, Custom Axles, etc.
I don't think the AWD haters appreciate it because they have never been in a V8 awd car and are only used to 4 banger AWD cars with no low end torque. I FULLY agree that a properly setup drag car with slicks, etc will be faster off the line on a drag strip. But in the rear world, with normal tires, wet roads, sand, uneven pavement, etc it is just plain awesome. My car has about 550-600hp (did an 11.18@127 on only 11psi boost) you can pretty much mash the pedal anytime, anywhere. I once gave a ride to guy with a 1200rwhp (I saw the dyno sheet) and he was just blown away and said my car was much faster then his in street trim.
Anyway, if anybody has any questions, I would love to help others with AWD conversions. The fact that you can get the oilpan from a TBSS is just sick!! A 600+ hp AWD LSx would be so cool. I am looking into a first Gen CTS-V for my next AWD project.
Thanks,
Tim

I totally agree. In the real world where roads are not always dry and flat and straight and glued, you will be humiliated by any decently powered cheap junk 4WD.
Besides transfer case, do you have to have front-rear differential?
How much power can Syclone TC cope with?

I am running a modified S10/Astrovan front diff with custom axles. The rear diff is a Ford 8.8 with custom stubs that bolt on the stock Cosworth rear axles.
The front and rear diffs are 4.10 gears with the front being open and the back being a Torsen LSD. Of course the TC is a viscous unit.

Np3 Vs Nr3 Transfercase
I hope i can find the answers here because I have not been able to anywhere else. I wanted to know what is the difference between the NR3 & NP3 transfer case. I screwed up my transferase on my 2002 yukon Denali and It seems like Mine comes with the np3 case, but just curious to know the differences. Hope someone sees this. lol
