I live near the Saint Louis, Mo. area. Where is the best place to buy donor ls1 engines and swap necessary parts?

I bought mine from FParts on E-bay they are also in bristol PA, not sure if its the same place. The engine was shipped perfectly with no damage. Fired right up haven't had any issues.

Unfortunately F body LS1's are getting fewer over the years. Better to go with an established provider like the ones above if buying long distance.
You can try the link below for local. Also very easy to find iron block truck motors locally on car part.

I bought mine from Macks Salvage yard in St. Louis for $500 with the harness and computer. They charge more for lower mileage but mine only had 60,000 on it so I wasn't complaining it also came with a guarantee to run. It is a very reputable salvage yard. Also check Modern auto parts they both carry the same things and they are in South St. Louis

Go to www.car-part.com and search by distance from your zip code.

Thats how I found a drivetrain one hour away at a much better price than I could get local.
