Default Ly6 or LQ4/LQ9

I bought an 08 LY6/4L80E for 1200 with 27k on it i was going to just put it in a T100 that i've been turning into a rock crawler but i REALLY want to put a 6.0 in my 79 malibu. The malibu currently has a healthy 468 BBC.

Would it be cheaper to build the LY6 or find a LQ4? The 6.0 that i put in the T100 is going to be stock. The 6.0 I want to put in my Malibu is going to be turned up to hopefully make a decent 500HP.

What would you guys do?

Where in the world did you find that combo for so cheap? I'd put that motor in the Malibu and get a dif 6.0 for the T100 IMHO.

keep the LY6.... It comes with great flowing heads...The L92's...

Throw a cam in it 22X/23X .050 113 or 114 LSA +4

Remove the VVT
Switch the timing set for a LS2 set
buy a LS3 or L76 intake combo

500HP+ easy........

Maybe even get you a custom 4L80E converter 3000 stall

Keep the VVT, and your low end....there are cams for the VVT that (I've heard) make great hp and keep the VVT active.

I bought the combo from a young kid in Fort Collins that was going to put it a pick up he had and just ran out of money. I guess the guy was a GM tech. He gave me the vin# and all the wiring harness(dash included), engine and and tranny are both complete. Pretty much do the wiring, motor mounts exhaust and tranny mount, order a new rad if need be and run it like it is.

I really don't know much about the LS series motors other then there badass! i really need to figure out the differences in them so i understand them better and what parts will swap over to make reliable power.

From a performance stand point, get trid of the VVT, you know its funny, half the guys that make some of these comments have no clue to actual valve timing events, whats optimal, and whats not... If VVT was optimal for performance, you best believe the 2010 vettes or Camaro's would have it on the LS3's .....

I would not even trust the VVT cams, becuase it is form and function of whats going on with the cam timing..... And the phasers, forget about it....

Show me a 500HP+ or 450rwhp LY6,L92 with VVT..... or even running 10's or 11's

So what do you have to do to take the vvt off. I read it was a came and timing chain change.

I mean if you want you can still use the VVT..... but I have not seen any track results or dynos to date with exceptional results....

Stop relying on 1 company and a dyno, go to the track and see... Dyno's are to be used as tunning tools not as to be the written standard..... You can chase a dyno and HP or rely on "real data" track data and street......

I see it all the time..... dyno shows 500-600HP, ET shows high 12's(and I know your going to say it can't hook, bull, check the MPH too)......and a low MPH........ Look at the MPH.....

OP you can do what you want .... but be careful of the internet power.....because most of these studies and dynos do not always roll over to real world and real street conditions.... There are too many varibles.... HP is the number one selling tool, and what you see here is proof of its effect on consumers..... Don't change now, pay $$$ big later, good luck tunning the VVTcam.......

Go to the track.....

There's a crap load i have to read up on the VVT i don't think i will run it.

Couple things i need to figure out is what to do with the front assc brackets to install the LS3 intake. I know the info is on here i just have to find it, i haven't really had a chance play with this sites search function yet but i have a feeling i get pretty good at it.

See that's the tough part about building this motor. I want the best of both worlds i guess and i'm going to have to surface one vs the other. I'm going to be using on the street more then anything. I think i'm going to turbo the motor or that's the plains right now. I don't think i'm going to keep the VVT as of now

I have LY6, and all I needed was the ls2 top cam gear and front cover. no need to change anything else to remove vvt.
