Default 79 silverado 5.3 swap, need help

hey whats going on guys?, i havent seen to many old skool sqaure body trucks floating around up here with LSx swaps...i have a few questions....

when swapping out a old 350 for a 5.3 what motor mounts do you have 2 use?

any custom trans crossmember for the 4l60e (or a4) trans? is a 700r4 easier? or whats the best transmission 2 go with?

driveshaft, would anything have to be custom with that?

i appreciate all help, i have the short bed stripped down the only there is the chassis and the cab, everything else i have preparing for the sandblasting chassis, shaving tail lights, and right now im doing a front end swap from 78 to 91...but again thanks and will post pix of the work in progress

hello t.s.i.t.l ther r plenty of swb chevy trucks. any way. motor mounts n adapter plates can be ordered for carshop inc. the driveshaft may need to be extended depending on what tranny you decide to run with. as you start gathering parts, you can ask certain questions n the ls1tech fam will guide you through the build. mostly everyone on this site turns wrenches. turn a few wrenches, think logically, and ask the rite questions and youll be finished in no time flat. good luck.

my setup is '06 5.3/4l60e DBW. i had to extend the driveshaft about 1.5 inches. the headers R JBA's. any headers will do. me n others have had to trim/notch the frame rails for the headers to fit. i use dual electric fans controlled by the pcm. i used spectre aluminum tubing for the cold air intake. i spent a lot of money($4000) to make my setup work. with my current knowledge and exp. i can spend half of that now. i love lm7 technology. I just want to clean things up, perform a cam/spring swap, & tune. its the best move i ever made. my bud with his c10/ls2 setup is giving big blocks havoc. he just needs to solve the traction problem. he spins the tires all threw first gear. good luck and keep wrenchin'.

Here are some pics and the link to my build. Also the driveshaft fit perfect, I didn't have to extend it or shorten.

hey man, i happen to be in the middle of putting a 6.0 in a 79 myself.to answer a couple of your questions, I got my motor mounts and headers from BRP hot rods. they make them specific for all kinds of different LS conversions. I would also strongly recomend the 4L80E trans, especially if your doing any upgrades to the motor, from all the research i did a 4L60E just wont hold up to the abuse unless you really sink some money in it. and I had a TH350 longtail and the only thing i am going to have to do to the driveshaft is change the slip yoke. These motors are the truth but im just gonna warn you they will nickle and dime you to death.

Why would you have to change out the slip yoke? The 77 I did the swap in also had a th350 longtail and the slip yoke is the same. Unless you are using a longer slip yoke?

Also if you are on a budget the conversion mounts you can use are from transdapt. These are the ones I used in the 77 c10 and also in the 95' silverado conversion. They are way cheaper than BRP. Here ya go...
