Default TCC Wiring

I read on LT1swap.com that it is possible to use a relay to control the power to the TCC for the converter lock up. Has anyone used this method? If so does anyone have a picture or diagram of how this is wired? Thanks again for the help.

Post a link to where you read that. He usually explains small fixes pretty well along with why and how it's done

Sounds more like you want lockup control for a 700R4/4L60 in a non CC environment

I wired mine up with a relay because I couldn't get a brake light switch with both open and closed contacts like most GM cruise control switches because it's mounted under the floor where water would kill one of those in short order. What I did was run a wire off of the brake light switch that goes to the brake lights (hot with brakes appied) to a relay on #86 then out of the relay on #85 to ground, then run the TCC wires that would be on the normally closed side of the brake light switch to #30 and #87a, it's been working fine for three years. The only problem, if you would call it a problem, is you can hear the relay click every time the brakes are applied.

Thanks ls1nova71 for the info I am new to this whole wiring thing. The only thing that has me confused is you say that you ran the tcc wires to #30 and #87a. Do I need to splice into the tcc wire from the pcm and run a wire to both #30 and 87a?

I should have clarified that. One side will be the power to the switch and the other will go to the PCM.

Default TCC Wiring

Guys

We have to do TCC wiring on Jag conversions all the time (LT1 and LS1), and I have a wiring diagram on how to do it on my website. Pretty simple- takes a $6 relay and your existing brake pedal switch. Have a look:

http://www.jaguarspecialties.com/tech_tips5.asp

(we call it brake pedal status, but it's the TCC function)

I hope that helps

Default TCC/cruise brake switch

Question..

I have a 99 Z28 LS1/4L60E in a 1978 TA. Can I connect the PPL (PCM 33) wire (from the Blue 230 plug) to the brake switch or do I need to wire in a SPDT relay? The brake switch above my pedal IS one for cruise control (cruise not present), so I have the extra wires...thanks..

Leon

Default Existing switch

If that switch/wiring has the following logic (with the ignition on)

Brake pedal at rest (no pressed)- wire at +12V

Brake pedal pressed- wire at 0V

Then you can use it to feed the TCC circuit (which is brake pedal status to the PCM). Otherwise you'll need to monkey around to get the PCM to see what it needs, either with a relay, or by rewiring that unused switch.

I hope that helps

Maybe not relevent but i used the 02 camaro auto brake light switch for the tcc control. It has both closed and open swithes for brakes lights and 12 volt open when the brake pedal is depressed. Mounts the same way as a normal brake light switch.

A little off topic, but I have not been able to get a response on this anywhere else.

Could this be used as a way to disable the lock up feature while in drive without causing the computer to throw a code? What I would like to be able to do is use 4th gear, without the lockup function for times when your driving through the hills and the converter wants to lock & unlock constantly. There are just some times when I want 4th gear, but not 4th locked.

So I could put a switch in line to remove power from the PCM??
Probably not a big deal, but my other question is would this render the cruise control inoperable?

you could use a switch to interrupt the 12v+ to the PCM, and that would make it think your riding the brakes...would disable TCC>

I did notice something strange..when I first put my 5.3/4L60E (the first of a few) in my 67 shot bed, I had not wired the TCC brake switch. I had just assumed I would not get lockup, since it had no voltage down it all the time. To my surprise, the PCM still commanded lockup. It would unlock with closed throttle decell, or when I mashed the gas. My only thought is the PCM must run a diagnostic when the pcm powers up and determines the tcc brake switch circuit is open, and somehow still goes a head and commands lockup.

anyone else ever notice this on a swap?

Default More Problems with TCC????

I believe I have not totally solved the TCC switch issue. I did find a wire with 12 v ign on brake pedal not pressed. It goes to 0v when I press the pedal. I connected the purple wire, white 220 plug to that wire (99 Z28 LS1/4L60E in a 1978 TA). I see there is a pink wire in the same white 220 plug that is labeled "IGN Power for TCC Stop Lamp Switch" . Does this simply go to an IGN source? thanks for any help...this could also be why my SES light is on...

TCC wiring is correct. I just connected the one wire to the brake switch. The one that has 12v without brake pedal pressed and 0v when it is pressed. I verified this by cruising at ~45mph, watch tach, keep right foot on gas gently and then gently touch brake with left foot. RPMs should jump up if it is connected correctly. My SES light is because I do not have a IAT sensor at all! I have the harness plug...just no sensor. That should resove the SES light. Thanks to all for helping!

Resurrecting this old thread, but it comes the closest so far to answering my questions. I'm electrically/electronically ignorant. I do know that if you ever let the "magic smoke" out of an electrical part, it won't work again, but other than that....

I'm attaching a diagram of what I have. I need to know where to run the:

1. Pink for TCC from ECM

2. Purple for TCC from ECM

3. Lt. Blue for Stop Lights from ECM (I think, I know that one)

4. White from chassis harness (Brake switch)

I thought I had it figured out from the previous posts but then realized I had two wires from the ECM and got lost again!

Had time to search some more tonight and found a clear diagram on page 11 of this document from Painless Wiring.

Just an FYI out there, PSI sells a kit for this, includes a pigtail, instructions and the switch for $16.99.
