$2.62 is a big differance?
98 with a 5.7 uses ECH TS5721 $20.46
98 with a 3.8 uses ECH TS4020 $17.84

Define functional differance?
If you mean electricly, I don't think so, but if you mean mechanicly, does having differant threads count?

FWIW, I tried to put a 3800 temp sensor in the 5.3L head and the threads were too large. The temp sensor was from a 96 SSEI, and Autozone lists the same part # for the SSEI and a 98 Bird 3800.

oh yeah huh...didn't take into account the threading....

functional differences as in...can u take the v6 and plug it into ls1 harness and the third wire to the temp gauge and everything function as if u're using the 98 3-wire temp sensor....but moot question if threading is different...hahahah...

The plug end and wiring is the same. The differance is the thread size.

Echlin, NAPA sells it
The list price for a 12551708 is $29 and some change, so net should be a little over $21 at the dealer
