Updates 1/25/04 - Firewall Smoothing Spent this week sanding and stripping down the firewall. Damn that took forever! It was obvious that this was the very first time this firewall had ever been stripped. I found four different underlying paint colors! The car appears to originally have been a turquoise metallic color, then it was painted rallye green, and then white, and then dark blue, and then red.
Added the Detroit Speed & Engineering firewall smoothing panel, that thing is a very nice piece! Fit was perfect, and I was impressed with the quality and the rolled lip. Made it pretty easy to weld up.
Here are some photos of the teardown and firewall work, next week I will continue sanding everything down and use some filler to smooth it out even better:

DSE always makes good stuff. I've never heard anything bad about those guys.
BTW, you have an error in your writeup: look for "engine pay". You probably meant "engine bay".
