Default Grounds?

We don't need no stinking grounds!! Uh hello McFly there are grounds at the back of the block! Duh! lol

OK now that I found those the Jeep starts with the key and stays running Amazing what grounds will do.

Yes in the harness. I have the truck harness, but I think the car one has them as well.

Yep I put the grounds in the back of the block along with grounding the motor to the frame of the car. Also make sure if your frame is painted, powder coated, or whatever you grind it down to the metal so the ground is good..

Some of you guys scare me. I have the black battery cable going to the block near the starter and a 10 guage ground wire from the negative battery lug to the firewall. Those are my only grounds with absolutely zero issues.

People with multiple ground straps must have something else going on.

I am carburated so the 6012 box does carry its own ground. I have that grounded at the same firewall lug as the battery.

It's difficult to have "too many" grounds. The only trade off is weight of the grounds themselves, which can add up.

I tried to copy what GM did - they put a thin ground wire going from the back of each head to the chassis, and a heavy ground from each side of the block to the chassis. I figured they probably had a good reason for spending the extra money for four grounds... whatever it is.

Simple redundancy

3-4 heavy grounds to the block/heads and one bare ground strap from the engine to the chassis. Main battery ground to the block and a small ground to the chassis near the battery. The effort is to prevent system failure if one ground point fails

And yet you only run a single power wire to each load? Why are the grounds more likely to fail than the hot wires?

I will say this, when I took an ohm meter to my engine I noticed the valve covers have a high resistance to the block but the heads did not. Thus grounding something to the valve covers won't work.

Maybe the lack of FI makes my situation easier. So just think how much faster I am without all those heavy *** grounds! Carbs rule!

Individual circuits are not the same as main harness power/grounds. Besides, anyone who grounds something to the valve covers is retarded. It's got a rubber seal and the bolts are lined with rubber insulators

Whatever - my grounds are worth the extra 12 ounces... because they add .005 HP!
