Default Did 5.7l come in 1996 Silverdo?

I found a really cheap block on craigslist. He says it is a 350 out of a 1996 Silerado. I tried to look them up and only found 4.8 and 5.3's for that year. Does any know if 1996 had a 5.7l?
Are there any draw backs for getting a Vortec pre 2001?
Thanks

The 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 didn't start till 99. The 5.0, 5.7 Vortecs are SBC design not LS. The downfall to them is the central injection spider that leaves no injector options if you want to make more power.

Those engines a really great for a gen1 style, one piece rear main, bosses in the lifter valley for a factory hydraulic roller cam etc. Slap a good cam and a vortec carb intake and youve got a good package for a street rod.

Those Vortec heads are a good design, but your limited on lift (about .425 only) with the current springs and setup... Machining, seals, springs and retainers are required for many thing more (.550) !

You need to use a Vortec intake and not the old style SBC intakes. Different bolt pattern.

The engines are good. Vortec heads. IF it has spider injection, they can be probematic (Chances are, it only has TBI as spider typically wasn't out until '97). You can however change to a marine intake and computer which changes the injection to MPFI and uses standard bosch injectors and fuel rails.

The cast aluminum intake is prone to rot as the intake gaskets are crap. expect to replace them with updated ones if they haven't been done already. Expect to visit dorman for a replacment lower intake too.

I have this engine in my Yukalade and I would seriously consider passing on the basis that you can score low mileage LM7's for an extra $100.

95 was the last year for TBI in the trucks.

My vortec 355 in my 86 TA with a roller cam and carbed intake runs it *** off. Good for playing around. But, a 5.3 with a hot cam will run as well..if not better with the right parts to go with it.
