69' C10 Stepside + 04 LQ9 + L92 Heads + LS3 Intake + Cam
I decided to start an engine build for my 69' C10!
Current for those of you that don't know it has a cammed 5.3L with a Comp LSR 215/223 .604/.610 lift on a 112 lsa and upgraded valve springs and many other small things. Don't get me wrong it runs great but I want a bit more power.....
To start the build I decided to buy a used good running 2004 LQ9 6.0L from a wrecked Cadillac Escalade, I test started it on the engine stand with a hacked together wiring harness and it ran good. Did a compress test highest was 200 psi, and lowest was 190 psi so it seems to be a very solid engine and very clean. I pulled some of the accessories off to start the tear down.

Got a good deal on a 90mm Cable Throttle body off of here. Here's what it looks like, sort of like a Nick Williams:
By the way in case you didn't know the engine is going into my 69'

Any opinions on this cam? 223/231 .610/.617 112LSA
I think I'm going to use it because of this (LINK)
I got in the new LS3 Intake along with the 90mm throttle body! Everything looks awesome!!! Also ordered up the offset intake rocker arms and supports from the dealer for less than I can order them online for. LOL The heads should be here tomorrow!

I pulled the heads off the LQ9 last night and everything looks great, cleaned the top of the pistons too. I'll get some pics up in a bit. I ordered new ARP Head Bolts, and ARP Stainless Intake Bolts as well.

Here's what it looks like as of now!
Plan is to clean and sand the block, then prime and seal it and paint it Copperhead, the color of the truck. Should look good! I'm open to suggestions on painting other parts of the engine, I may want to find some nicer valve covers as I won't be able to run my Coil Covers with the LS3 intake.

UPDATE:
Painted the engine, the Copperhead color of the truck and it turned out looking awesome. Now I'm going to pull the oil pan, front cover, and valley cover and sand blast them and clear coat them! Should set it off a bit, if the bare clear coated aluminum doesn't look right I'll find a nice gray color for them.
Check the pictures out....

The new Comp cam and Pushrods came in from Comp Cams. There website said they would only ship free to the lower 48 but I choose free shipping anyways and it still gave me free UPS ground shipping to Alaska. Haha

Installed the New awesome L92/LS3 heads, bolted them on with the new ARP fasteners and Felpro gaskets. They definitely set off the copperhead block and the nice gray colored aluminum parts I painted with High temp engine paint and high temp clear coat.

I was planning to keep the 4L60e, it's got a nice shift kit and servos, but add a Stall to it. Who knows how long it will last behind the 6.0L but I don't drive this truck to often so I should get some life out of it.

Got all the valvetrain installed into the heads, had a problem with one of the rocker arm bolts somehow it got stripped out even though the heads where new. I tried to tap it out reinstalled the bolt and tried to torque it but as soon as I tried to tighten it the threads pulled out of the head. So I had to helicoil it, but it all worked out and now its all installed.
