Default Average cost on ls conversion

I'm just about done with my 67 camaro just started going through the receipts and I cant believe what I got in the deal already and not done yet. I just built a mild ls1 and all I had to buy for the nos was the plate I had every thing else and I'm still at $9800. And only $1500 for that is labor witch includes rewiring the whole car. Is that about average or did I buy to many parts?

I don't know that there is an average cost. There are a gazillion variables.

Some guys buy mounts and some make them. Some guys bend up a factory style metal fuel line while others need the latest braided line with the best fittings. Some guys use the exhaust manifolds and tie it into the existing exhaust system while others buy the best headers and an all new 3" stainless exhaust. etc etc etc. There are simply too many variable to say average cost.

I'm about half way through and I'm looking at around $10k, less $2,200 I made on selling parts off the GEN I small block in the car. I'm installing a bone stock L-92 from an Escalade. Hopefully, I'm not going to have any major issues jump up that are going to cost a lot to fix. Amazing how fast it all adds up!

I'm right about $4000 including car, motor, tranny, 4th gen seats, 4th gen radiator and cooling fans, sandblasting and por-15, mounts, bushings, qa1's front, steering linkage, and wheels on a second gen T/A.

I bought a 36k l33 motor and longtubes for my chevelle swap and custom harness and didn't even break 2k so it all depends on what you run

doing things yourself helps cut cost alot too

Its the mods, labor and cut corners done twice that kill the budget

I am keeping a list on my dads l76 carb swap. I didn't need any fuel system stuff other than a carb.

bought a 125 mile l76 swaped cam, lifters, dod, springs, intake.
Headers and carb, alum radiator.
we have spent about $5000 and have about everything we need. Poss a pan and pu.

The bbc we are taking out should bring about $5k so it is not a bad deal for him.

It is not cheap depending how far off the deep end you jump.

Agree on the mods. Well, idk if I should call them mods or maintenance since when I bought the car it had not been driven for about 9 years. Bout the qa1, the steering, bushings for body, and suspension, and the wheels. Thats maybe 1200 or so.

its all about the "while i'm doing this, i might as well.." I had about 10K in the swap(before the blower), but that included a built 8.5" 10 bolt, a custom harness, new springs, 4l60, cable x speedo adaptor..s&p headers, magnaflow exhaust, conversion oilpan, spectre tank.. ect...

the as long as i have a good running ls1 i "might as well" supercharge it

Now I'm at...

now that its supercharged i "might as well" put in a 4l80/built 4l60

I have done 7 swaps into 88-98 chevy trucks (2wd and 4wd) and S10's (2wd) and our average cost is $4300-$5800 depending on options IE: 5.3L vs 6.0L, keeping the old tranny, A/C, etc. Includes new fuel pump, fuel lines, radiator and heater hoses etc. Turn key out the door. And that is only $1500-$1800 labor. Comes with a drivable tune as well. Dyno tune is extra. just my $.02

We did a 6.0L T76 turbo in a 99 mustang for $9200 out the door. No A/C, modded the TKO500 ford tranny to fit the LS motor etc.

At the same time I did a 5.3L swap into my own 88 K3500 for $1760 total.

with only a 5.3 you can easily so it for less than 2500 heck you could even put a cam in it while ur at it and make it. its all about patience good things come to those who wait (if they are smart enough to know when its good and not let it pass). If I can do an l33 with custom harness with stainless headers in my chevelle for less than 2k a z swap can be done for less than 2500
