The new supercharger cam is done. Going to start de-burring and prepping the block Saturday.

I thought the cross bolted mains (6) were the reason why the LS engines can take so much boost with OEM cranks. Why does DART revert back to a spaded 4bolt block?

confused,
Jim

I put this question to Richard Maskin, the owner of Dart Machinery. He tells me that the way the LSNEXT block is designed, the mains are actually stronger. He said that they have put the right material and reinforcements in the right areas to accomplish this. And, you get the bonus of much better windage control in the bottom end.

I don't get how a 4 bolt mains and extra material is gonna help with LS' windage issues. Thanks for explaining

The open spaces along side the main caps help pass air between cylinders as pistons push air back and forth

I was wondering if that was how but wasn't sure.

Thanks G.

Hey Jimbo,

Here are two photos. One of a typical LSx block and one of the LSNext. Notice how the typical LSx block creates compartments for each pair of cylinders whereas the LSNext block is all open on the bottom. The open arrangement is much better for windage.

Thank Speedtigger. Do you plan to dyno the new combo NA first just to see what it does? (Please say "yes") This will have a lot of eyes watching for sure.

I might make a pull or two just to make sure everything is happy, but don't expect a big N/A number. The compression will be just below 10:1 and the camshaft will be ideal for a ProCharger, not N/A.

On a bit of a hold right now. Fast Forward Racing Engines is moving their machine shop to a new building, so I am waiting for them for a couple more weeks.

Speedtigger,
oh, ok. So this block is basically a reg. LS block except having a typical SBC 4 bolt mains within the deep skirted block?
