Need help with swap
The plan:
I have a 96 Chevy 1500 z71, and am wanting to swap either a 5.3 or a 6.0 into it's place. I'm not looking for much over a stock truck that's reliable and gets better than the current 9mpg.
I plan on using the current trans thats in it.
Using these motor mounts http://carshop.carshopinc.com/produc.../98457/CSP2370
plan on using the stock exhaust for now.
Ac/delco in tank fuel pump.
don't want DBW
First batch of Questions:
1. Whats the easiest way to be able to use all the accesseries i.e.. A/C , PS, PB? Will the old hoses just hook up to the new parts on the new motor? Or will I have to use the old pumps?
2. Probably my biggest apprehension about doing this is the wiring involved. Do I just splice in the harness from the new motor, to what's already there? Will I need to get another fuse box for it? If i got an aftermarket harness and ecm how does that get hooked up? (example https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...ss-option.html )
3. And the least of my worries at first is what should I do to the motor while it's still on an engine stand, to help it breathe better and get better mpg's? Keep the truck intake or swap it for a ls1 intake? different heads? Or should I just pretty much keep it stock for the results I'm looking for?
These are the main threads I have been studying for my info so far:
