Sorry I missed this. Yes, I did install the MORE traction bar. It made a big difference in how the Jeep launches.

Take a look at post #126 for the pics of the install.

Has anyone with a 5.3/5.7 swap installed cruise control?

It's very possible on a DBW setup. There are a few wires (4 or 5) which come out of the TAC Module 16 pin connector that would go to switches on the dash or multifunction switch.

Do a search and you should be able to find what you need to do.

cool build! I have a 5.3 yj as well. I still need to do an 8.8 swap myself. I'm running a 241c transfer case.

Because you did such a good write up of your swap, I got the courage to take the knife to a 2006 Jeep LJ with only 58,566 miles on it.

I bought a wrecked 2003 Suburban, parted it out and got most of my money back. I sold the Jeep 4.0 parts and got some more back. I plan on doing a complete write up like you did to be able to help others including a break down of what I spent.

I have driven about 2000 miles now and am very pleased with the performance of the Jeep. I get 15 to 18 MPG but need a tune and plan on getting one soon. My tuner is sure he can get me 20 MPG and still burn all the rubber I want!

I posted a few pictures on my Face Book account of the swap, will do more later on a build thread. Link to pictures: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...3486920&type=3

Thanks for the compliment.

Welcome to the 5.3 Club. This swap was by far the best performance add I've done to any vehicle in my 25 years of being a gearhead. Dollar for dollar it cant be beat.

Enjoy the new ride.

Default Missing something

I have a 1990 YJ and am picking up a 2002 Chev 4x4. Why not just use the entire GM system (motor, tranny and transfer case for the swap. The truck has a 4.8l engine, 4l60E tranny and GM transfer case with floor shifter

Good question. It's been a while since I was in the planning stage of this swap but here's what I remember:

The YJ front axle requires a driver side drop transfer case. I believe the powertrain you are referring to has a pass side drop. If you are also swapping the front axle then you should be fine.

I also wanted to be able to reuse my stock driveshafts. By building the transfer case the way I did I was able to do so and save a few hundred dollars. I was also able to make use of the stock jeep speedo which saved some more dollars.

By far the best LS swap for a Wrangler. I logged 19 miles of snow plowing this winter with my 98 TJ LS6/4l60e swap. That was just my driveway.

Thanks for the reply - I picked up the 2002 Chev 4X4 yesterday and will start tearing it apart this week. This will be my 4 conversion - Ive done a 75' Monza - V6 to V8 then did a 88 S-10 4 cyl to 400 hp V8 ( ground up custom) then did a V6 Fiero to a 420 HP V8 and now the Jeep.
Your posts have been very inspiring and I really appreciate your detail and photos.
I need a good plow truck and I think this will be the trick, as well when out in the bush the V-8 will make it alot more enjoyable.

All i can say is Docked Wage you are one handy guy!! All the fabrication and part matching is amazing. I dont have a jeep yet but really want one soon. Im thinking about doing a 5.3 or a 6.0 in it. After reading about traction issues and such i wonder if 6.0 may be too much for it? Was also thinking about a 5.3 with a supercharger or low boost turbo. Mine would not be offroaded primarily a daily driver as i want to keep miles off my pontiac gto but still have something fun to drive. This post had me glued to it i just kept clicking next page!!!

Thanks for the compliment but I have to say that I found most of the info for part matchups on the web. It was scattered on various sites around the web so I figured I'd put it all together in one place.

As for a 6.0 being to much it's really only another 25 HP. Now a turbo or a blower would make it an unruly beast in my opinion. Then again this is the first time in my life that i actually think that something has more than enough power.

Not saying that it's the fastest thing out there but as mine sits, it will outrun most of the stuff on the street because of the power to weight ratio.

If you have other questions let me know and I'll try to answer as best I can.

Docked Wage,
Another compliment on your write up! I have it bookmarked for reference. I have my 5.3 in my CJ7, and it's off for exhaust this week, as well as new drive shafts. I'm in CA so I am keeping it smog legal, the tip about fly cutting the manifolds is great and that may be an option. I also have a set of Pacesetter headers that may be used after a little fitting. Thanks for all the info!

I can't seem to find how you got the stock speedometer to work. Could you steer me to the post that explains how you did it.

Since I used the back half of the Jeep 231J Transfer Case I kept the stock speed signal generator in place. To make it function I tapped the LS ECM for a 5 volt source and ground to power the sender. Then I sent the signal to the Speedometer.

Here's the pinout for the Stock 92 Jeep VSS.

It does and I looked into using it but there was an issue with the tooth count.

Also its a Variable Reluctor and in this case the speedo needs a digital signal.

I'm not really good at wiring, could you explain this a little more. What wires connect to where and where did you find the 5 volt source and ground on the GM ECM. I had novak do my GM harness and ECM.

Thanks for the help

AJ
